I have been collecting since the mid-60's. I do not know of any 1989-D/S errors. it is possible it is post mint damage.
But without a photo of the coin and especially the date area there is no way of telling. If you can post a photo that would make it easier to determine what it is.

Hi @kdanno118 ,
I think it is appropriate that a "Mr. Lincoln" give you some guidance on your Lincoln coin ... here is one place to search.

Thanks for posting the photos. They are high-resolution, and well-focused, so they can be enlarged. It would have helped if they were more close-up, but I think these are probably good enough.
I enlarged the picture of the date and mint mark, and I'm sorry, but I think it was an optical illusion. I can't see any sign of an S mint mark under the D. Just a tiny dark spot.

I agree with lacemaker3, modern zinc cents are subject to zink rot and pitting. That is what it appears to me. There are also similar spots on the reverse of the coin.
Sorry it was not an error, but keep looking, there are errors to be found!

There is a very knowledgeable Lincoln coin specialist on a few coin forums. He is an expert, you can also watch some of his YouTube videos, check this one out "So Called Errors-Richard Cooper". He has many other Lincoln cent subjects. Search his channel, you will find some fascinating stuff.

@kdanno118 If the link I provided didn't help then @roadking5555 's suggestion is a good one ... they posted as follows:
