getting payed

I was informed by eBay that now since eBay has taken over payments that I need to ship out my sold items before I receive the payout in my personal account.  What business operates in this manor?  If I buy something from any online merchant no one will ship the item until I Pay in full and they have the funds for the purchase.  This is beyond ridiculous for eBay to operate this way. When I asked in chat with a rep how they can do this the person said other sites use this platform.  I asked which sites specifically she was referring to and she said "I don't know" !

SO frustrating!

Re: getting payed

you can wait but you will need to set your shipping time to compensate: expect unhappy purchasers.....

MP dont float the payment like PP did....

If you do not want to ship until the buyer payment "processes", and is in your checking account you can change the handling time in you "future" listings.

Been doing MP for 2 years. Works OK for me.  When eBay confirms the buyer payment I ship within my handling time.

Hundreds of shipments. Never a buyer payment fail to get to my checking.

PP spoiled us by "fronting" the payment while in some instances it was still processing.

Wally, the grocery store, and the gas station wait for payment each time I use my CC.  I take my stuff, or gas, and drive away while they wait.

When you shop on other sites using a credit/debit card, don't they ship your orders quick?

They haven't received the money either, but they know the payment is good and they'll be receiving the funds if a few days.

Have a great day.

Re: getting payed

I have seen quite a few posts on this forum with same mistrust and It would be interesting to learn what created this mistrust and why as in my experience there are no grounds for this.

Once your buyer's order appears in your awaiting dispatch and in your manage payments funds are shown in processing then you can ship the item as buyer has paid in full.

You may not have access to these funds for a day or two and for a new seller or high value items this wait could be longer but fact remains that buyer has paid.

Online sales will cease to exist if buyer's expected or demanded that they will only pay after they receive the item similarly  sellers demanding that money is in their personal account before they ship .

Buyer by paying and seller by following eBay's instructions to ship are both protected by their respective eBay guarantees.

I am not sure where or why mistrust of payments comes from but in my experience there are no grounds for this mistrust.

A lot of folks have been around since the days of money oredrs and personal checks to get paid with:

Such was one had to be sure they cleared before shipping.

Yet even back then some just shipped when the order was completed with out payment and did well.

Ah them good old days when on waited for a check, MO and even cash in the mail....

Lack of trust on the internet is a good idea.

Yet I can say my experience with Manged Payments has been good.

I ship when the payment is pending.  (in other words when eBay says I can).....

No problems so far...

Re: getting payed

I fully understand and agree and trust shown by sender of a money order  or cash was immense and thank goodness online sellers did not take advantage of buyers.

In today's world risk is none when eBay says you can ship an order as buyer has paid and money is in the "process" of going from pending to available to Pay out.

Like you I am a seller and I have always shipped out as soon as orders appear in awaiting dispatch as I ship daily all dispatched if order is confirmed ( eBay receives payment) by 1-30 PM.

Most of those sellers have never sold on other sites and they don't realize that's how most of the sites work now days.

They are used to instant payments and that's all they know.

Have a great day.

Re: getting payed

Once the buyer makes the payment  they can't cancel it. Only you can do that.

Whenever I walk out of a store with my groceries or whatever it is I'm buying, unless I'm paying cash  the store doesn't have the money from my credit card in their bank account instantly after I paid..  Sure, I get an alert a few minutes later my card has been debited but the money usually takes a day or two to clear into the store's bank account.  If a third party is processing the store's payments it could be another day longer on top of that for the store to actually get the money.  If the buyer paid ship their item.

Re: getting payed

I really want to add it's amazing how many people want to be in the business of selling but they really don't know how selling and getting paid and shipping works on eBay.

Mercari

Poshmark

Amazon

Etsy

etc. etc.

No more hand-holding from Paypal - we're stuck with merchant processing just like everybody else.

This one leaves me scratching my head as to why a CSR would tell you part of the policy without explaining the rest of it and why.  However I have read more and more posts like yours, so it is a real pattern and a real problem with the CSRs training.

MP is NOT the cause of your current issue.  MP does NOT require sellers to ship before their payments will process.

What your CSR did not go on to explain to you, the requirement for your to ship right away is because you are a new seller.  There are certain rules on money availability that is specific to new sellers.

Here is more information.
