Spendable Funds Split Payments eMBG Coverage

velvet@ebay  devon@ebay  - I have a question about how the eBay Money Back Guarantee applies when using the new Spendable Funds feature.

The eMBG page says transactions using Spendable Funds as the payment method *are* covered, but then it also says items paid for with multiple payments to the seller *are not* covered.

The help page for Spendable Funds indicates you can choose to split your payment between Spendable Funds and another payment method.

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/selling/spendable-funds?id=5305

So in that scenario, if you paid part of the transaction with Spendable Funds and the rest with a debit or credit card, would that be considered multiple payments to the seller and would that make the transaction ineligible for eBay Money Back Guarantee?

Re: Spendable Funds Split Payments eMBG Coverage

Hello! I’ve heard back that transactions using both spendable funds and an external payment source will still be covered under the eBay Money Back Guarantee. The multiple payments in the help page you referenced is speaking to something like a motors sale, where a down payment of some kind is made and then the remainder of the sale is paid at a later date. The team will be working on updating the help page to better reflect that though. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Re: Spendable Funds Split Payments eMBG Coverage

So I see "Spendable Funds" as eBay's way of offering store credit from sales (After fees and whatnot are deducted)

Honestly, I can't pick a side with this because, yes, I see what you are saying, but at the same time, its the equivalent of going to a big box store and paying with their merch credit + your payment method.

We might need Ebay to clarify this becuase, yes this is something that does mildly confuse me

@whattheactualfox most of the terms in the help page about Spendable Funds are pretty straightforward, although I'd personally like to see *a lot* more detail about how they handle unauthorized use claims.

As far as split payments, they do make it clear that if you use Spendable Funds and another payment type, if there's a refund it goes back to which ever payment method was used - Spendable Funds portion goes back to Spendable Funds and the rest goes back to whatever other form of payment was used, which makes sense.

The part about multi-payments not being covered by eMBG caught my eye because there has been a scam going around lately where fraudulent sellers list in categories that don't offer eMBG coverage and we've seen a lot of buyers not understanding why they can't file claims when the items never arrive.

So *if* splitting the payment between Spendable Funds and another payment method makes the transaction not eligible for eMBG, I think it should be specifically called out on the help page for Spendable Funds because that's going to be very important for buyers to know when deciding whether to enroll in the program and/or when to use it for purchases.
