About a month ago I was trying to bid on an item and it required me to "link my paypal account to ebay" for an automatic payment. Sounded simple enough. I didn't even win the item but now everytime I purchase anything the payment goes through 100 percent auto, no login or anything. I want to go back to logging into paypal for every purchase. This opens up the door to all kinds of problems, but the more I dig around it seems like this may be impossible. Please tell me it's not...

I see this saga is already unfolding in another thread, but I don't see an option to delete this thread it or even edit it. Of course I'm new to this forum and may be overlooking it...🤔

I just had the same issue which I am upset about. I dont want Ebay paying for items for me, I will pay for them when I'm ready!!!! Now sellers will ship multiple items for one price yet charge you shipping for each individual item. NOT COOL.......DONT EXCESS MY PAYMENTS

same for me. I want to log into Paypal every time I pay for something too but Ebay automatically sends Paypal an invoice right away, 5 minutes later order processing is done - cannot change anything. I do not log in at all to Paypal to pay, it wont send me there. I went into Paypal and deleted Ebay as an Authorized User. See what happens I guess. I think when you Sell something Ebay wants Automatic Payments but I think the problem is when you Buy something it thinks you are buying "for your business" ?? which I'm not even a business, I sell under the Max amount before im declared a business. I have heard to delete Paypal and just use a credit card to buy. I would keep automatic payments for selling. These are my issues ive had, take it or leave it, good Luck.

Then you will be asked to make a new authorization every time you make an offer or bid on an auction that required preauthorization.
You can delete it each time after you make the offer/bid/payment, and then it will only be in effect for the single time that you made the preuathorization.
If you want to be sure that your preferred payment is used when you pay with PayPal, you can set up your preferences for eBay.com (or any other online store you use) in your PayPal account. You can choose different methods for each store this way, if you want.
You can also delete the automatic login to PayPal on your PayPal account, which is recommended. You need to do that every time, after you make a payment, because PayPal keeps enabling it again every time.

If you mean that when you check out of eBay and select PayPal, you are sent directly to a specific PayPal account without entering username or password and you do not want that to happen, sign in to that PayPal account outside of eBay and use the Gear icon to go to Settings and choose Security, then check the "Manage your Logins" and "Auto Login" sections and either delete those entries or select "Log out of all devices".
If you are unable to sign in to that PayPal account directly, try using a different browser (or a private or incognito browser window) to see if that gives you the option to select a PayPal account.

Ebay logs into my Paypal account and sends an invoice to Paypal for the item I bought right away. I do not want that. I want to log in myself to Paypal and choose how to pay.

If the seller requires it, you must provide a payment method in order to place a bid or make an offer on that seller's item.
If you do not want to provide your payment from PayPal, delete the PayPal entry from your eBay payments page. The next time you place a bid or make an offer for an item where the seller requires a payment method in advance, you will be prompted to provide a new payment source.
In some cases, eBay may allow an hour after an offer has been accepted or an auction has been won to combine transactions or to choose a different payment source; if you do not complete payment within that time, eBay will use your chosen default payment source to pay automatically.

Thank you, I will try that. I think the problem is that "Payments for selling" is the same as "Payments for buying" which is Ebays fault. Separate Payments for Buying and Payments for Selling Ebay - youre really messing things up. They use your selling info to pay for your buying items which is Totally wrong. i just got charged $36 for an overdraft fee from the required checking i have in order to sell because ebay sent an automatic payment to my Paypal account without me even logging in to Paypal- that is Total **bleep**. - Im ready to not sell so i can buy w/out all this automatic billing, or just delete everything and hang it up.

It wont let me delete my checking account. A pop up says we (ebay) need a way to pay you payouts. Please add another checking account before deleting this one. Ok, so I cannot delete my checking without closing my account, thats what Ebay is saying. In order to quit selling and just buy stuff you have to close your account.
