Missing partial refund

Purchased item from seller I've bought from many times.  Paid with PayPal.  Item arrived with defects that didn't exist when pictures were taken.  Contacted seller, they offered 50% refund if I just kept it, I said OK.  No notification of 50% refund, contacted seller, they said they had issued the refund through eBay payments.  No indication of that in my eBay account, in PayPal, or on the credit card behind my PayPal.

Told seller that, they said to take it up with eBay or PayPal because he'd done his part.  Have no reason to doubt him, has been good to work with in the past.

PayPal says talk to eBay.  eBay doesn't offer dispute resolution except for "didn't receive" or "want to return", neither of which apply.

What's my next step?  Thanks for any help.

When you seller issues a refund, there should have been an email that comes to you from Ebay.  From what you have described, it doesn't sound like that came through.

When did the refund get issues?  How did you pay for the item?  With a credit card?  Cash in your PayPal account?  Debit card?  Etc.

Some methods of payments, especially credit cards can take from several days to a month for it to post to your credit card account.

Write your seller again.  Let them know you are still having trouble tracking down the credit.  As them to give you the Refund ID number on the refund they gave.  That way you can contact Ebay and get them to track down what happened to the refund much easier.

If they don't know where to find it, they can look at their Seller Hub, hover over the Payment Tab, Select Transactions from the drop down menu, then locate the date they issued the refund and they should be able to find the refund and the refund ID number for your item.

Or if they prefer, from the drop down menu that appears when they hover over the Payment tab they can select reports.  In the third filter box they can select REFUNDS and then put in a date range.  They will get a report and from there they should be able to get the number.

Or if they still have the email Ebay sent them telling them the refund has been processed, the number will appear there too.

Then contact Ebay and have them trace the number.

Missing partial refund

Thanks much.  I should have followed up that I hit the button to ask eBay to call me and they did.  They confirmed no partial refund had been issued.  They said if the seller remains unresponsive I can file for a return and ask eBay to get the partial refund.  The agreement is captured in the ebay messaging function, so should be straightforward.

Thanks for your response.

If I were you, since your seller actually was less than truthful with you, is file the claim right away.  Don't wait.  I could be that your seller was trying to draw this out until you passed the time limit to file a claim [30 days from receipt].

So your seller is no innocent person here.  They intentionally mislead you.  Now you need to protect yourself.

@trimul  ^^^ This.

If nothing else, you'll help your seller to learn.
