I've only been on ebay for 22+ years. Why oh, why would I want to be forced to have ebay manage my payments? For years I resisted paypal, then about 10 years ago ebay forced anything listed in the categories I sell "must" accept paypal, no bank wire. I was off ebay for a long time, then slowly found my way back. Now, out of left field they are forcing "manged payments" and no longer allowing us sellers to hold money in our own paypal account. Oh, ebay just happened to raise it's fees. But don;t worry, it's easier (but it costs seller freedom of choice and extra fees).
So now, on the 29th of December, without any previous warning they will deposit money into my bank account. I guess this is what happens when a team of well paid young people make choices that affect millions of seller accounts... make it easy, charge them more, increase ebay's bottom line by another small margin.

@natrigon wrote:That may be the case for the reg category, but it is not that way for the categories I sell in. The fees are now higher.
What does that mean? What is a regular category and what makes the categories you sell in special or something other than regular?
We can't know what your fees are without knowing the categories you are selling in. So please be specific.

I've been here longer than you, and I can tell you that Managed Payments ("MP") is a God Send, and good riddance to PayPal. I don't get it......you were quite happy with Billpoint when eBay set up a managed payments with Wells Fargo in 2000 (which was 1000 times better than PayPal), and now you complain a score later for the same thing? Today, no difference.
This is what it was 22 years ago:

It should have been our decision to accept managed payments or not. I like having my money available to me as soon as payment is received through paypal, and not waiting 3-4 days until ebay processes it and than waiting on the bank to clear it even though you chose to have your money deposited daily.

It is your decision, to accept Managed Payments or find another place to sell.

Do you know of any other site like Ebay that you have the ability to do this? Ebay owns the site therefore they have the right to set what method sellers use to get their payments process. Sellers were just as upset when we changed to PayPal years ago. Many did not want it, but Ebay decided it would be the processor.
All the larger sites like Ebay have had their own payment programs for years. Ebay is the last of the bigger sites to do this.
I understand we all got spoiled with PayPal, me included. But unfortunately if you want to sell on this site, we can no longer use it.

Things change especially on the internet. You will either need to be aware of that and accept it or maybe selling on the internet is not right for you. I'm not being rude. Selling on the internet just isn't for everyone.
If you decide to stay selling on Ebay, make sure you do your homework when you select another site. Ebay was actually the LAST of the bigger sites to do this, so you may not like the way the money processes on other sites too.

I 100% agree with you.

I'm glad ebay decided to alter their bizzare payment options. I guess the glacier wasn't that big after all.

It doesn't really matter, ebay has recently changed their "managed payments". You might realize that the data dept meets the trend dept and has to answer to the shareholders it is not for the users benefit, but to make more for ebay. That is fine, it is the way the world works. You don't need to know the fees, for the categories I sell in. I've already crunched the numbers and sell most items elsewhere. I just don;t want them charging me more to "manage" my payments.
Since the original post I'm glad ebay changed and now offers numerous payment options.

The ONLY recent change to the Manage Payments program has been the ability to have semi monthly or monthly payouts along with the two choices we have had for a long time which is daily or weekly. Other than that there has been no recent changes in the MP program.
Fees have not changed and whether or not you think the categories are important to the FVF you pay, the fact remains they are.
I was simply trying to help you. But if you feel you have it all figured out, that is great.
The data or financial information that Ebay now requires from sellers is also required by FEDERAL law since Ebay is now our money processor. You may not like it or want them to be the money processor, but they are and they will continue to be whether you want them to or not has no affect.
The FVFs in MP are not higher than they were when we were with Paypal. That is a fact not an opinion.
We pay Ebay a 10% FVF to Ebay and the 2.9% we use to pay to PayPal we now pay to Ebay for a total of 12.9%. Plus the 30 cent per transaction fee that is charged in Ebay and was always charged in PayPal.
I respect that you have some dislikes in the MP system. Many sellers do, so you are in good company. But you are not paying more than 12.9 % in the computer catgories.
