I have a message from eBay stating that they are changing their business model on February 14. They are not using Paypal, rather, they are hooking up with your bank account. Any thoughts?

eBay and PayPal became separate companies about 5 years ago. At that time, eBay announced that they would gradually replace PayPal. Implementation of the new Managed Payments system has been underway for over 2 years. Each seller gets a deadline by which they have to switch over; yours is February 14. By the end of 2021, all sellers will be transitioned away from PayPal and into eBay's MP program. Yes, MP does send your funds directly to your bank account.

Hmm: thinking eBay wants the money PayPal was making.......

MANAGED PAYMENTS will new payment management system. If you want to continue to sell on EBAY you must switch to MANAGED PAYMENTS.
With MANAGED PAYMENTS it takes 3-5 days for money to be deposited into your CHECKING ACCOUNT.
CUSTOMERS call still use PAY PAL and many other options for purchases (but money does not go into YOUR PayPal).

Sellers that rely on PayPal to conduct business on eBay don’t have to worry about being left behind.
PayPal will remain as a payment option on eBay until July 2023, allowing plenty of time for sellers to transition to the new system.
eBay says that “PayPal will remain an important partner”.
It seems that PayPal will continue to have a place on eBay, it will just be less prominent.

I couldn't find a date on that article, but it does say that "eBay has announced that it will stop working with PayPal in 2020" so it's apparently a couple of years old. Their information might be obsolete, or might have not been accurate even when first published.
There are plenty of posts on these discussion boards which demonstrate that a seller who ignores eBay's ultimatum to switch to MP will be unable to sell.

I noticed when I just signed up for MP that Paypal was still listed as a payment option. This is confusing, at least to me. If a buyer makes a payment via Paypal through MP will the money go to MP or Paypal?

Regardless of how the buyer pays it will end up in your checking account.

PayPal will be a payment option for buyers for at least 2 or 3 more years. However, the seller's money from those PayPal payments will go into MP.

They are and it is quiet a disaster.

You only just found out about managed payments now? Its been around for two years. All sellers are being forced in. No more instant PayPal payments even if buyers pay by PayPal. Every payment goes to your bank account.

they are dropping paypal like a hot rock.

Very angry with eBay won’t be using eBay after reading what other eBay sellers have to say eBay sucks!
