Hate managed payments

Ebay has dictated a change in my business model that does not work for me, and I am completely unhappy about being forced into managed payments.

Re: Hate managed payments

If your "business model" doesn't allow you enough cash reserves to wait a few days for payments to arrive in your account, I think you should consider changing your business model. I can't see how any business could operate without any cash reserves to keep it going for at least a week. People often post that waiting as much as four days for MP to arrive in their bank account will put their business under. Does that mean if they had no sales for four days that they'd be out of business? If your business is running that close to the edge, then something else is clearly wrong, IMO.

Re: Hate managed payments

Sorry to say but, i've only been on eBay for 10 years (almost) and i can't begin to remember all the changes that have been made - granted that MP was the biggest and most impacting for the entire community of sellers.  In the long run eBay will always do what they consider is in their own best interests.  As a seller you have a choice - to sell on eBay or not - Change is inevitable in this world as well as on this, and many other selling platforms.

but have to wait days to get paid.

Just imagine that you are employed by any corporation.

You would get paid once a week or sometimes every other week.

Or if you were a private contractor that billed people and then waited for them to pay you.

We actually have it easy on Ebay

Re: Hate managed payments

I'm no fan of managed payments either, but it's here to stay.  I want to sell here, so I'll deal with it.  Money is typically in my account in 3-4 business days.  In the real world, businesses typically are paid on 30, 60, 90 day terms.  I'll be OK with a few extra days wait.

Managed payments? I sold some items 4 days ago and today just got a message that my payout will take 4 days to reach my bank. How is this better? A total of 8 days and then I only get a third of the money owed to me? Pay with pay Pal the old way and boom! There is your money right in your account.

**bleep** Ebay?

It may help you to actually consider exactly what the info MP presents to you actually says and not just pick the worse case basis from the email.

Once MP releases the transfer into the ACH system, they no longer have control over that transfer, the banks do.  If your transfer after MP initiates it is taking 4 days to arrive, it is likely a problem with your bank.  That will sometimes happen with small local banks.

My deposits come in like clockwork as I do weekly deposits, released by MP on Tuesday mornings and it is in my bank before noon on Wednesday.  I do bank with a large bank.

Those trying to do Daily Deposits [poorly labeled by MP as there is no such thing] are running into far more problems than those that do weekly.  Some due to the refusal to understand how MP processes payments because they want it to work differently.  But wanting something to work differently doesn't help you at all at this point.  You need to know and understand the actual process in place.  This link explains it easily and very clearly.

Now once we all understand the process, we need to hit MP up on improvements.  I firmly believe they can do better than this and should.

It actually benefits you in general to do that anyway. That's how you get a high credit score/credit limit. And if you've got a card that gives you cash back or rewards, you get even more out of it.

@terri1701d

Going by what you original post said, you received the payment from your buyer last Thursday, Oct 29th, is that correct?

Running with that date, as you know, MP only processes on Business days, so the soonest that money would have become available for transfer would have been Monday, maybe Tuesday.

Let's say MP initiated the transfer on Monday [which you can verify for yourself from the Seller Hub under the Payment Tab].  Once MP releases the transfer it goes into the ACH banking system.  They no longer have any control over that transfer once it is in the hands of the banks.  Depending on your bank, it can take 1-4 days to arrive in your account.  Smaller, more local banks take longer to receive these deposits than larger more main stream banks.

For example, I do weekly deposits.  They are released by MP on Tuesday mornings each week.  Mine arrives in my bank before noon on Wednesday but I do bank with a large bank [BOA].

So if your deposit is taking longer than you like, you need to look to your bank and see what you can do to speed up the process.

Many folks agree with you, many don't.

If you want to continue being a seller on eBay, you'll have to learn to live with it.

Reimagine your business model.

Strap-in and tighten your belt, it'll be a bumpy ride.

It is?  I've been in MP for almost a year and it seems pretty smooth to me.  Deposits go in on Tues, pop into my account on Wed or Thurs, about the same amount of time it took for Paypal to transfer into my bank account.  No big bill at the end of the month because my FVFs are paid all along.  So...??

Re: Hate managed payments

I agree, this is absolute stupid, For 25 years ebay was the greatest business model for seller, Now this sucks, this is the worst, this is as bad as Amazon. I hate this, I use to have cash on hand at any time and Now its tied up in ebay stupid managed payment **bleep**. This absolute is the worst business model. I might have to retire from selling on ebay this is so bad.

Re: Hate managed payments

You've sold 46 cars in November already. You're willing to give that up and have zero money coming in, rather than waiting a few days for your money? That is a rather strange business model. Are you also saying that if you went four days without a sale, you would be out of business? I don't get the logic here.

Re: Hate managed payments

Yea, it definitely sucks for some of us so far. I had to open a checking account just to accept payments, and then have to wait until I can move it to my PayPal account. Usually around 5 days from payment to having it back in my PayPal. I miss the good old days (last month) where I didn't have to do any extra work to get my money instantly. It may be time to move to etsy.

Etsy has the same payment processor and works basically the same.

Re: Hate managed payments

Really? I thought PayPal worked over there. On the plus side I have been slowly migrating  my eBay customers to my Facebook page over the last year. I don't have to use ebay near as often as I used too fortunately. Mainly just selling to message requests at this point.
