Sellers, Are you aware that Ebay determines the Final Selling Fee including sales tax and shipping? This is outrageous!!! I just sold a watch for $488 but when figuring out the fee, they added $45 sales tax and the shipping of $30. So they took 15% on the total. The sales tax is not part of my earnings and shipping is an actual cost, none of which goes in my pocket. Ebay is screwing sellers. Sellers need to understand hjust how greedy they are - where would ebay be without sellers

This particular fee schedule has been in effect for more than a few years; however, as someone who's been here since May 12, 2006, you had not noticed it before, although you've presumably been paying it all this time?
Without going into great detail, eBay is required by law to collect the state sales tax and remit it to the appropriate state treasury of about 46 states.

Shocking you just realized this. How did you model your pricing structure without knowing your costs?
and, I would like to add...
"...and shipping is an actual cost, none of which goes in my pocket..."
If none of the shipping costs goes in your pocket you are underpricing your shipping, too....
Don't get me wrong, I too, like many others, would like lower fees, but they are very transparent and clearly explained prior to listing any items.

You've sold over 1000 items and just noticing that?

"Sellers, Are you aware that Ebay determines the Final Selling Fee including sales tax and shipping?"
Yes, I am aware of this: The percentage portion of eBay's Final Value Fee (FVF) is charged on the total amount paid by the buyer.
"I just sold a watch for $488 but when figuring out the fee, they added $45 sales tax and the shipping of $30.
So they took 15% on the total."
That "15%" caught my attention, and then I saw the word "watch" in the previous sentence.
Yes, it is true that the FVF percentage on Jewelry and Watches is 15%.
Most other categories are currently subject to the FVF percentage of 13.6%.

Have been aware of the "fee on shipping" since ????? 2011 was it?
Have been aware of the eBay "fee on sales tax" since that started. Like 5 years now, and PP charged (at a lower rate) a fee on the entire amount processed for years and years.
Like many payments processors .................. a fee is charged on the entire amount processed.
Becoming enlightened is sometimes a delayed process 😐 Glad you were able to become aware and join the rest of us with your new found knowledge, and thanks for thread # 49, 482 on the subject.

Give us a break. There's over ten thousand posts from clueless sellers complaining that eBay charges their fee on the total cost the buyer pays.
Don't you mean where would eBay be without buyers?
It's the money the buyer gives eBay that runs eBay.
