Delivering a car I sold here and flying back. Getting paid in cash. Whats the best way to go through security at the airport. Not putting that much money on the conveyor belt, and can't keep it in my pocket. Do they still let you hold it while going through the scanner?

As far as I know, yes.

Take the money to a bank, I use regions and they are all over.
I could go into any Regions in the country and have them deposit into my account.
There are horror stories of people with cash being stopped by cops, who take their money.
No way would I try to travel with that kind of cash.

And dealing with TSA, take your shoes off, go through a body scan.
And then have to explaine why you are carring that amount of cash...
You could go to any bank and buy a cashiers check, stick it in your wallet.
If they open your bag and see all that money, you will be drawing attention, not cool.

It's still the US of A where you have the right to carry as much cash as you want. The deal is going down at the airport so looking for a bank isn't practical. I don't mind explaining to the TSA why I have that much cash on me. Lot easier than the time I tried to take some motor oil on the plane. The guys at Gas Monkey Garage do $100,000 cash deals and I assume have no problems going through the airport. This should be easy.

How much you are carrying is no-one's business unless you are going through Customs, then the $10K rule kicks in.
Lots of people carry lots of cash, they see this all the time. Keep it in an envelope, other papers, hold it in your hand. Just say "papers".

Why not just go into a bank and get a cashiers check payable to yourself?

He is doing the deal at the airport and then getting on a plane.

Or he could just google the name of the airport.
Most of them have banks in the terminal.

Call the TSA office in each airport you are flying outbound & inbound through.
Just ask what the rules and amounts ect are for cash on a person.
Im sure they have a amount / rule they go by.
Better yet. get it all in 10s and 20s & stick it in a brown paper bag, put on some mirror shades and a Bob Marley Tee shirt.

Just went through security. Held the cash in an envelope in my hand. Guy didn't even ask what's in the envelope. They did pull my bag out for search when they saw a Vice Grips wrench on the X-ray. Said it looked bigger in the X-ray but it's ok. 2 hours before flight. Board. Want to pull out the cash and fondle it, but that might not be appropriate.

Like I said Mr. Money Launderer.
Good for you.

If you must travel with that much cash, be prepared to be pulled aside by TSA for "extra screening"... Keep all documentation with you regarding how you obtained the cash, ie bill of sale, etc.

Like I said, TSA didn't even ask what's in the envelope. I didn't even have to go through the scanner, just the metal detector. More worried about getting jacked on the subway from the airport or on the walk through the woods in the dark to my drop car.
