Monthly Chat - July 13th at 1:00 pm PT - How to Reach Your Customers

Hi Everyone! This month's chat you’ll have an opportunity to talk to specialists from our Seller Tools team and is themed around “How to reach your customers”. Let them know your questions here, so they can have a chance to review them before the Monthly Chat on July 13th at 1:00 pm PT.

-----

Edit: Thanks for joining us for the Monthly Chat with eBay Staff and the Seller Tools Team.

The chat thread will remain open until 2 PM PT at which point we'll close it from additional responses. After that time, we'll continue to work on responding to any queries that might still be unanswered.

To post your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, type your question, and hit submit between 1-2 PM Pacific Time. The format of our chat mirrors the format of our Community Discussion Boards, where each post will appear in the thread chronologically. The (specialist name) and Community Team will review each question as it comes in, and will quote the original question in our reply. This quote and the reply will appear later in the thread, so just keep scrolling down to see our answers.

As a reminder, we want (specialist name) to be able to get to as many members as possible during the allotted hour, so we have a few things to ask of you:

  • Keep on topic
  • Scroll through the list of questions to see what has already been asked to decrease chances of redundancy
  • Keep the message/question simple and no more than one to two items. If you include multiple questions in a post, please be aware that they may not be addressed during the chat and (specialist name) will do their best to follow-up with it after the chat has closed

Missed the chat? Send your questions to the podcast by calling 888-723-4630 or email us at podcast@ebay.com and maybe your questions will make it on the air! Or listen to past episodes while you wait for next month!

Monthly Chat - July 13th at 1:00 pm PT - How to Reach Your Customers

eBay encourages sellers to reach their customers by using social media to drive traffic to listings, which would be greatly helped by that 2.5% final value fee for social sharing incentive that was teased at eBay Open last August.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Discounted-Final-Value-Fees-for-Social-Sharing/td-p/32874788

I know they finally started testing it in Australia in April, when will it be available for the US?

Are they my customers or eBay customers?  If they were my customers I would use all my marketing tools to get repeat sales.    Unfortunately calling, emailing, sending postcards, and pushing online ads are all against the eBay TOS.

Sure: Please introduce yourselves, and give us a capsule summary of the various Seller Tools that you support. If one or more of you specialize in one tool or another, please let us know which. Pretend you're all sitting at a corporate conference table, and you open the meeting by going around the table to each introduce yourselves in turn.

Given that these tools are basically software, please give us an idea of how they're developed and how they're being supported, so that, for example, requests for feature enhancements or bug fixes can go to the right contacts, and we can have future dialogue on the status of each.

One of eBay's biggest problems in the past has been lack of useful communication between those inside the company and those outside, and it's good to see that that's being gradually addressed. We still seem to be in the early days of developing an actual working interface between eBay and its sellers, especially regarding new development, but hopefully we are on the right track.

Just to be clear, we're not looking for corporate secrets or proprietary info, just a bit more insight into who's who, what you're doing, and how this connection between eBay and its sellers can be improved. A short introductory paragraph from each of you would be great: just write one in advance and paste it into the Chat at 1:01 p.m. on July 13th. Thanks!

velvet@ebay  Before we get too far along here, could you provide a list of the "Seller Tools" that ebay considers "Customer reach" tools?

velvet@ebay   One question is this, why did eBay take away our ability to see who is following us?  I never got a straight answer on this from the Weekly chat way back when and would appreciate one.  It would be great to be able to add notes to those Follower's IDs like what kind of stuff they purchased, etc.  THAT would also help any type program this month's specialists will present on how to reach customers.

sheila@ebay   For future Monthly chats is there any kind of a schedule on topics and departments that will be joining us?

I'd like to reach my customers by being able to have them "Request Total From Seller", when they buy multiple items, using a mobile app!!

Your own statistics show that there is an ever increasing number of users, using a mobile app.  This should have been taken care of years ago, but it is not too late to bring this option into today's world.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!

With others on "what" tools we are talking about?......  Ebay specialists are so divided, I'm just not sure what would apply........  I'd speak on Store newsletters/store home page.....but doubt these guys are involved with those......  But what about listing page?  or social media?

I presume Promoted listings, coupons, etc are included.....but without definite info.....too much trouble to expound and then probably get a "we will refer it, etc"............

Hi @valueaddedresource the Seller Tools Team said:

Thanks for the question and great job in understanding the nuances of the program. This program is being tested in AU for a limited period where reduced fees (2.75% +$0.33) are charged for eligible transactions. We will evaluate the benefits to sellers as well as ways of improving the experience for them before we roll it out in other markets. The timeline of expanding the program is still being determined.

I was pleased to see the information ebay provides for store newsletters:

Total Reach, Open Rate, and Click Through Rate.

A few questions:

1. I understand Total Reach, and I assume "Open Rate" is the percentage of newsletters actually opened by the buyers.....but just to be clear: The click though rate is expressed as a percentage. Is that the percentage of the total reach number?  Or is it the percentage of opened newsletters that resulted in a click though?

2. Would it be possible to get this same information on a campaign by campaign basis? For example, if I send a regular newsletter, and I send a newsletter advertising a coded coupon or markdown manager sale, it would be useful to know which type of newsletter resulted in a higher percentage of click throughs.

3. Also, will there be any SALES tracking for newsletters? So we can see whether any of the click throughs resulted in a sale or not?

@mr_lincoln I do have a schedule but I'm not going to share it ahead of time in case the department can't join the monthly chat.

devon@ebay  I see from the response you received that "the timeline is still being determined" for the social referral program. I realize we aren't going to get an exact timeline, but do want to note that many of us were hoping this would be available by Q4 of 2021, and now, with a challenging economy, it would be even more important to have this available by Q4 of this year.

So, while the team can't give us an exact date, can they at least tell us whether that is a possibility, or should we assume it will NOT be available for Q4?

Monthly Chat - July 13th at 1:00 pm PT - How to Reach Your Customers

Hi Velvet,

I was wondering if you could help me get in contact with someone regarding my listings. This week has been extremely strange. If I update a quantity of an item it disappears from my active listings even when searching by the name of the product and item number and doesn't appear anywhere on the site. I end up having to go to my sold listings to find it however  it shows the updated qty but the listing isn't live anywhere. Then if I end a listing and put sell similar it doesn't go active on ebay even after 48 hours. HELP!!!!

Hi, @nickelsanddimes2015! This is definitely something that we're going to want to dive into deeper. Since we'll need to take a close look into your account to see what's happening, please reach out to our awesome agents at the bottom of the page here. They'll be able to investigate this further with you.
