The new Groups layout

It looks like the new layout is finally in work. To start off I had to authourize 39 photo's in the moderation section. Some of these look very old but I ask you check out the photo albums and see if some of yours has been deleted or is missing from your original entries. Having looked around the new layout for awhile I have found it a bit confusing, so I guess a person will have to experiment a bit and go through all the sections. What I have found out almost right away is that you will be signing in more, maybe because they said in one place or another that other folks could look at the site as non members but would have to sign in to participate, Still looking at this one. They have set the topics up like some other sites where you have scroll through all the pages to get to the latest entries. I just went to the preview section to look at what I have wrtten here and it went into the sign in page and when I signed in I lost all I had punched in, had to use the back button to get back again. Confussion-Confussion, sure hope they get it working better than it is. Jack just went to the preview section and it worked this time.

It also looks like they have put in a edit section so that you can edit your entry if after submiting you find you should have said more or less and want to change it. It seems to be working well. This is something they should have had some time ago so as to save making another entry to correct something you forgot. This provision is located at the top of your entry. Jack

This layout S UCKS!!!!! I can't tell what is a updated post. I find it takes me longer to read the screen because of so much crap on the screen. Good firetruck-in grief! Just got a message saying that my post had content violating community standards. Good grief!! Again!! it didn't like "firetruck-in" without the hyphen.

I hate the fact that you can't tell what has been updated since you last logged in. Maybe they will correct that. I think the powers that be have cracked down on the foul language. I'll check here to see if the famous sh@t or bloody works....also note that there is no more spell check. You can adjust things by using the "my content" drop down, but good luck trying to get back to the discussions from there. No link. I had to use my browser's history to get back. And just what the heck are "Tags"? I'm not happy with the changes at all. There is a Forum that should have posted as a new topic. I somehow goofed and now I can't seem to get rid of that thing. I'll have to ask the Groups Admin how to do it I guess. Oh, and the emoticons take forever and a day to load if you try them. TheGouchFaddaSmileyCentral.com

Here's a trick I just discovered, if you want to try it. Go to the "My Content" drop down and click on "Preferences". Within that area you can post a picture for us to look at like the one I just did and you can also choose how to view the discussions in general; oldest or newest post. I just tried the "newest" and it gives you the last post at the top of the thread page, then you scroll backwards through time to read the older posts. This prevents having to look at that long list of posts we usually get. One drawback is that you will be reading the posts backwards and a little out of context. Your choice. SmileyCentral.com

The only way to tell if a thread has been updated is to look at the right hand column and see what the latest update date is. Such as this morning there is three updated threads for the 11 July. What I hate is that you have to click on the last page in the bottom right corner to be able to see who and what was written. This almost seems to be the norm for a lot of other different forum outside of eBay. It appears they have taken someone else's forum types outside of eBay and added a few kinks of their own, just to make it more confusing. Spell check is still there. When typing into the reply box you will see the row of symbols at the top of the box. Emoticons--bold--Italics--underline--pre tag (haven't figured that one out yet--url tag--and then spell check. As I typed the above it didn't seem to apply the bolds, underline etc. Will try that again later only the spell check worked. Still trying to figure out "Quote Original" Tried to get some of the above quotes but failed, will keep trying. Something happened when punching the buttons so will have to experiment. I'm probably confusing people. Where is their how to manual for this? Jack

Wow, After typing all of the above I didn't get what you see in the last thread. It seems to have jumbled everything and then changed some of the type but did not give this indication when I previewed it. Oh well back to learning I guess. Jack -- Edited by jamajack at 07/11/2007 6:29 AM I just edited a word spelled wrong so it appears this section works well -- Edited by jamajack at 07/11/2007 6:30 AM

Jack, looks like you and I are the only ones playing with this mess. Found the spell check. Still don't know what those pre tag and url buttons are for. You are right about the form of this forum now. It is a clone from somewhere. Better post a picture soon. I'm not looking forward to starting at those ugly icons forever, and why must they be there in the first place? Too many graphics if you ask me. Not everyone has the time that we do to sort out the new navigation. Dot is frustrated as you can tell. B-)

Here is the way eBay says to use the button group in the reply section. How can I format the text of my posts, replies and comments? To format text (bold, italics, underline, etc.), you can use the format buttons in the posting view. Type your message and then highlight the word(s) you want to format; then click the appropriate button. Small bits of code indicate the formatting, such as in this example: "This is bold text, and this is italicized text" text" will appear as "This is bold text, and this is italicized text" in your post. To insert a smiley face, first click the smiley button and then the expression you want to use. Here is the bold try Here is the Italics try Here is the underlined try Still looking for the pre button and url tag button Jack It appears that the above instructions work when I go to preview, will see what happens when I post.

Pete, Check around your picture and see if there is a small envelope with a star shinning in it. It means you have internal mail from me (or who ever). Jack -- Edited by jamajack at 07/11/2007 8:04 AM

I saw the T AG thing before in you tube. If I am correct, What that is, is like a link to your topic, picture, video, etc so if you posted a photo of your model structure and add tags of; model, N scale, structure, railroading, then if someone tries searching for videos, etc then your photo will come up in search if the user searched using one of these "keywords" that's how I find Burlington Northern train video on you tube as most use trains or B N in their keywords list. On a similar topic, that is how Google, etc search engines find websites. When you design your website, you have a command script (HTML coding) that you put in all the words that link to your subject. The search engines pick up these Meta links ( i think that was what they are called) So a p orn site is gonna have the whole dictionary in their meta link file so when you Google "fox" or "babe" or "railroads" then their site comes up in the results. Dave former website owner. Back when I was younger I had a Pam Anderson site of strictly pictures of her, nudes, normal shots, you name it. I couldn't tell ya how many sites i was kicked out of due to my graphic content (nudes)

I still can't post without getting this violating standard alert due to my content. and it doesn't underline the bad words. I had to guess and keep hitting post until it would take, it didn't like B N together, didn't like T AG together, etc

If I have any spare time I will look for a forum website where we can start a new group and keep our RR family together.

Dave, I just tried all your words and abbreviations and when I tried to post it went right into spell check. I hit the ignore button many times and cleared all the red marks and then hit post and it again rejected me with the following statement. "Your message cannot be posted because it contains content that violates community standards" Now how in hell does CNR, CPR, or any abbreviation violate community standards. Some dipstick (or purist)must have written this part of the program. Now to see if It will post Jack It went through OK, now why didn't it reject my abbreviation for th rr"s????? -- Edited by jamajack at 07/11/2007 9:45 AM I just tried to put some of daves words into a sentence in other ways and went to post, it went to a section that said again " Your message cannot be posted because it contains content that violates community standards" but right below was a post button which I hit many times and then it went into a saying "That you are only allowed to make a post every ten seconds not one right after another. Oh the beauty of eBay. -- Edited by jamajack at 07/11/2007 9:53 AM
