Just to let the Canadian buddies here know that the newest issue of Canadian Model Railroaders is out and the CNR, George's and my HO layout, is the cover story. Look for it.

Hi Guys. I have every intention to review a lot of the old topics here and delete those that have not been visited in over a year. So.......if any of you want to look at the old topics and bring them forward before I do this, have at it.
B-)
does it really matter, no one has anything to do with any thing any more, both here and in the N group, getting very disheartening these days.

Blizzard!! Hasn't hit us yet, but it is coming. Very cold this morning. -12C I know. No where near the Peg, but cold for us. Stores were blocked last night as usual. Silly people.

Sorry I have been away forever, busy with all kinds of work and things around the house. We did have a nice Christmas, even had a nice snow storm just in time to leave a couple inches of snow for a white Christmas. Pete, it sure sounds like you got picked on for Christmas this season.
One of the things that kept me busy was wiring up a big TV cabinet we have had for a while with our flat screen TV (been a few years it seems even). But the configuration of amplifiers and DVD, Bul Ray players, etc. has settled down, and I finally got all the materials together with fans and UPS power and what not. There must be a half a mile of wire in that thing. The only wires on the outside attach to on cabinet connectors, even power (got a fancy twist lock plug). That is the electrical engineer in me, fun, but a lot of work. It looks nice now.
If you look closely you can see all the stuff behind the glass doors. This is a mostly done photo, it looks better in real life than this cell phone photo. Here is some of the wiring:
All the best,
Charles

Nice work Charles. As an audiophile I can understand your undertaking. If you don't have a copy already, I suggest "Video Essentials" dvd. It has NTSC color standards tests and test patterns to properly set up tvs as those so-called factory settings are really out to lunch in colors and contrast, brightness, etc. It is time consuming but well worth the effort, (just like using spl meter to set up channel configurations for surround sound,)

Well health went for a kicking since last time online. Came down last sunday, sick on my day off on monday, called sick on tues, went in wed, ordered to go home thurs within 30 min of being there. Went to a clinic thurs afternoon as breathing was crappy and was told I got a lung infection. So on antibiotics and hacking up my lungs. Dr gave me 1 Mar to 5 Mar off so called boss thurs night to say I'm out for a while. At least this afternoon I fell a lot less pressure on my heart. I would be huffing just from walking up stairs outta basement. With the harder breathing I had, i have no motivation to do modelling. I know I could sit in a chair and model, but when your heart/chest hurting and never knowing when you will go into a coughing fit, ya probably don't want to be working on a prized model. Plus I never slept as much as I did from last sunday night to friday morning. Must be getting to normal somewhat as sat and sun morning I've been getting up at 8.

My lungs are clear but still out of breath going up stairs or bit of walking. Cough hard and momentarily get dizzy. X-(
this temporary illness sucks.

I have bit the bullet! I'm going to send one of my favorite HO engines to Tony's to get it fitted with DCC and sound. It's a 4-6-4 Hudson in CN colors. The retrofit is costing more than the original engine of course.....but it's only money.

Pete,
There is something to be said for getting someone else to do the grunt work, ahh the life of ease, too bad it costs so much...
All the best,
Charles

Charles, I'm sending it because I do not have the knowledge required to choose the proper decoder etc. for the loco. My wife says why not do it before I get too old to enjoy it. Don't you just love that woman! I do.

Sounds like you have a great partner there, understanding and doesn't mind you spending your hard earned pension LOL, so what do you do as a return favor, there's always something LOL.

I do all the cooking. I also do most of the laundry. I cut the grass and plant the flowers. I do the snow clearing and the dog walking and clean up. I let her watch her favorite soap without too much nagging on my part. I never talk to her before she has had her full 5 cups of coffee in the morning. By then she is civil. I go with her to grocery shop and take her out to lunch and dinner often. I'm a pretty good catch!

LHS is having a 50% off clearance sale to get rid of old stock and generate money for new stuff...hopefully. I think it is one nail closer to the coffin. The place is slowly bleeding to death.
Lots of empty shelves. I saved some money as the Montana Rail Link MP15 w/dcc was already gone. Still picked up a couple covered hoppers, even though I say I have too much cars already.
