Crisis here in the frozen north. Power on and off with rolling blackouts and very cold weather. Living by candle light and butane cooking burner. Confuzer on and off with poer so not much opportunity to email etc. Bummer of a situation. Power company not sure when we will be back to normal since equipment is broken down and parts are missing or in route with the ferries shut down meaning nothing is getting through like gas, food and mail. Sucks! So if you don't hear from me for a while you know why.

Saw it on news of power plant overloaded (as newer homes have electric heat) At least it is suppose to warm up out there for ya.
Not easing up out here. This is the temps we normally get during the Feb deep freeze for 2-3 weeks. Not in Dec and ongoing.
I called in today as I wasn't mentally ready for work nor did I want to deal with going to work at -45. I'll just work another day in the week to make up for today. It's only early in the month to get my 12 days in.

Five minutes of internet is all I dare. Still rolling blackouts and very cold. Would believe we are getting rain tomorrow? This will be a real mess with all the snow. Of course it will freeze and all the snow will turn to rock. I hate this place!

-9 feels like -17. It's a MIRACLE!!!!

Today I have joined another group.........septuagenarians. It will be a great day because the sun is out and the temp is rising. Only -6 this morning. Nothing can get me down today.

You'll be down again if that rains hits your area. Rest of that part of country is getting hit with stupid numbers like 40-60mm if rain. Just what ya need after a blizzard.

Happy weather days...

After the power outages we couldn't find 70 candles in all of Newfyland. So one big one had to do. I went in training for week before just to have enough wind power to blow it out.

Happy B day to ya. Hopefully you had some cake and vino or a martini...or two.
Hopefuly the rain didn't wash out your lit candle.

Got a stupid project at work to do, but it enable me and another guy to get special permission to work 15 days in jan vice our normal 12.
Extra 3 days will help out this time of year towards hydro bill or VISA,etc..
Just shelled out 80 bucks for an oil change yesterday... If I was my once normal/healthy self, I woulda bought oil when on sale and changed it in the driveway in the snow if I had too. Now in the spring when oil is due again, the weather wil be good and I will change it myself only to find the idiots at these lube places wrench in the drain plug so damn tight. Happened last summer. Frikken rediculous how tight they torqued it. No need of it. Had to use a 3/8" drive ratchet to break it free. Should be able to use just a wrench!!!
286,000 km on the truck. Probably the worst punishment the truck sees, is when started up on the days it's -40.

Maybe a dumb question, but I have to know. Do you use a lighter weight oil in winter and have a block heater in the truck? Our car has a built in block heater but we have never had to plug it in since the car is in the garage and never freezes.

Oil- my truck takes 5w-30 all year round. I run synthetic as I know it is better (from being a gearhead)
I have a block heater and some sort of battery warmer (I assume the warmer is wired in with the block heater.)
With where you live, you could park your car outside all the time and not plug it in and it will start everytime. I never used a block heater in the maritimes.
It's when you start going down below -30 base temperature (windchill doesn't mean anything to a car) that block heater can make a difference.
I usually just plug mine in when temps go -25 and colder. Maybe I could get by at -25 range but engine states easier so why not.
I remember older vehicles taking 10w30 in summer and 5w30 in winter.
I think there is a chart in owners manual showing the range betweeen the two oils, and for canada I can go with 5w30 year round where if you lived in middle east you would run a heavier weight oil. (or that was my bronco's manual)
