The Daily Moose

Here is a link to Bar Mills Models on-line newspaper and information station. Art has 4 new on-line videos that you might find interesting. The first two are about Bar Mills Models itself. The next two are instructive videos. One on different types of glues and their use and the other on the new Bar Mills weathering powders. There are also pictures of some of the kits available. Enjoy. http://barmillsmodels.com/dailymoose_05A_05.html

Re: The Daily Moose

Confuzer crashed before I ever tried to install that program. Decided not to do it for now as I have the Dummy book and an slowly getting through it. Maybe I'll learn to use Win8 after all.  I heard the Win9 will be just an advanced version of 8, so get ready for noting but apps from now on. Soon, Microsoft will stop supporting Win7 and that will be that. Maybe the next one will be a MAC!

Sounds like you should forget the middle east Dave, They have weird stuff over there that affects your lungs too. And you would lose your medical EI too.

I'm doing a new Bar Mills kit that has stucco on the first floor. The technique is to use Rustoleum stone finish paint to coat the walls like stucco. I have to buy the paint today and give it a go. Should be fun!

Re: The Daily Moose

what a tiring day. Spent forever trying to file for medical thru EI online. Now there's a form from service Canada I have to take in to get Dr to sign, of course that means an appt.

Get get a hold of supervisor at work, I need an ROE as well. perhaps Monday.

And then took forever to get scooter fired up after sitting all winter.

Doing finishing touches to motorcycle model for content this weekend. I think for the exertion it takes on me being out and walking beyond 20 feet, I will display/set up model off tonite as I register for show., and then go to the show for the last bit to look around before the awards.

So once I drop paperwork off to EI, hopefully the cheques start rolling in. And beings it's medical, they should NOT be on my back to look for work obviously. At this stage, Dr doesn't know how long I'll be off for.

Re: The Daily Moose

Of course the paint I need for the model is NOT available in Newfoundland. God did we ever make a huge mistake moving here in the first place. Now we are stuck for a while longer, but family be damned, we will get out of here!

Now my plan is to use a thick coat of white glue on the sides of the building and sprinkle fine ballast on it to simulate the stucco. After it dries I'll paint it. I have done this on roofs to simulate a gravel coating over rolled roofing.

I wonder what I'll do with all my O scale stuff when we leave? This is my last layout.

Bought a Windows 8 for SENIOR Dummies and am trying to learn the system. It is simpler than the regular very technical Dummies books. We old folks have a shorter attention span you know.

Stay warm everyone......

Holy crap! You can't even get textured spray paint there? yeesh. I got a jar of some textured gel I bought at an art store here that I've yet to try. (real art store, not frikken potpourri up your ass Michaels.

Re: The Daily Moose

Finished my bike model for valourcon that is on today. (model contest held at the local Legion) I took it in last evening and registered so I could take it easy this morning.  I'll go over later today to look around and attend awards.  I took some pictures yesterday before boxing it up so I'll have to download those and see how the turned out.

Re: The Daily Moose

received a gold medal for my bike  😄

Beings our IPMS club hosts monthly meetings at the Legion and hold their model contest  "ValourCon" there, the trophies are metal roundels with script, logo, image, etc to look like a military service medal. Gold,Silver,Bronze aka 1st,2nd,3rd.  Nice unique touch as compared to trophies, certificates, plaques that I've seen elsewhere. And then they have model classes- Armour, military aircraft, civilian aviation, auto, ships, sci fi,etc...

I'll resize the pics so they can be posted here.

Now to figure what to build next. 😛

Heck, I've got enough kits I bought in past year (Ferarri, Aston Martin DBS, Nissan GT-R, some pick, ups that I want to customize, more bikes)

I should build my Mad Max-Road Warrior Interceptor.. I will weather it all dusty.

Also the Kenworth that I want to build as an outback road train. Need to order some aftermarket tires for it.

For some reason I think I will have extra time for modelling this spring/summer.

Re: The Daily Moose

Bike photos up in my trainspotting folder   😄

Luckily ebay allows larger pictures since last time I uploaded so when you click on the pic most of them will go larger when you click again on it.

Re: The Daily Moose

Dave,

Nice work... why did you get a gold metal again... 😛   (or did you just find a shrink ray and use it on the real thing....)

Maybe it is not too hard to change the default program for the windows 8 double click to the wrong program problem you have.  Can you right click the photo file like in windows 7, pick "Open with" then pick "Choose default program..."?

All the best,

Charles

PS, hey the attachment thing worked!!  It did not look like it did at first.  I attached a screen capture of the right click menus in win 7.

Re: The Daily Moose

Just got back from 1of 2 med appts today. This morning I had to get a chest Xray and a VQ scan.  Some imaging system with sensor panels that surround the chest and they inject me with some radioactive stuff that circulates through my lungs.  Amazing world of nuclear medicine.

This afternoon I got an echo ultrasound apt for my heart.

Re: The Daily Moose

I like to think I'm in a good city for hospital/specialized clinics. Health Science Center and Cancer Care Manitoba supposed to be best in country and according to a customer my sone had one day, recognized in Europe (customer was from Kenora,ON and went to US to one of those cancer hospitals and they couldn't treat him ? , he went to Germany and they told him to go to Winnipeg.) Why no one in Kenora told him about Wpg  I have no idea.   Plus we have the Fed Lab here....Level 4 containment disease lab...like the CDC in Atlanta,GA.  Hopefully I don't have to see Cancer Care in my life.   On the funny side, if they have have a breakout from containment of some infectious disease like ebola, it will take out a good portion of criminals as the lab is located in the middle of gangland.  :^O

Re: The Daily Moose

Spent most of yesterday outside painting the planters, putting new mulch in the garden boxes and washing the car for the first time since last fall. It's red! I thought it was white all winter. Now I have muscles barking at me that I forgot I had. Yipes! Bring on the aspirin. Today I plan on restaining the decks. Next project is to paint the whole fence. I have a few nice days according to the weather report and hope to get all this done. I'm going to have to service the mower soon too as the grass is growing......finally. Maybe spring has sprung.

Re: The Daily Moose

Can you come over to my place Pete and do some yard work as I can't do it   :_|

Mind you I can't sit down either. I got raped good from Income tax this year.  X-(    Like I didn't have anything better to do with the money.  :_|  Pay bills or give it to those sharks at CRA.!!!

Talladega race on today so I will watch it.  Speed TV really stinks lately for scheduling .

There was a world rally championship race in Argentina this weekend. (not covered.)

Aussie V8 Supercar race on this weekend (not covered)

But they fill the spots with total SHYTE programming like pimp my ride, pass time, are you faster than a redneck, and countless nascar related talkshows/race reviews.

Missed the F1 race couple weeks ago as they aired it 7am live and didn't re-air it later that day like they use to.

Time to file last weeks EI.

Re: The Daily Moose

I have totally given up on NASCAR. Too busy to watch cars going around in circles nose to tail with the only excitement being a crash. Everything changed when they went to extreme safety after Dale died. What a shame.

You pay my ticket and my PT and I'll come over Dave.

:^O

Talladega didn't disappoint. Aside from nearly 4 hr stop due to rain. It turned out to probably be the best race of the season.  Beings I can't do much, I had the time to waste watching the race.
