Summer Doldrums Contest

Simple contest for the summer months. In Kim's Place album there is a picture of a tool. This is a two part question. 1. What is its proper name? 2. What is it used for? The prize is a rather expensive Bar Mills Models laser kit for Mooneys Plumbing. The Billboard and fences shown are included along with a bag of metal castings. You have the choice of building it yourself or having me build it for you. Deadline is midnight ebay time on Labor Day, September 3, 2007. Only one entry per person will be allowed and both questions must be answered correctly in that one entry. Take your time. First correct posting wins in case of a tie. Have fun! looks to me like it may be a tension slide hammer. Would be used for driving track pins in roadties to roadbed, this may well be a wrong guess though. Barry.....]:)

Looks like a decorative wrought iron gate fixture with a sliding peg. If that is what it is, it is used to hold the gate in the closed position, but would usually drag on the ground and keep the fence from swinging. There's my one guess used up. Kevin

Can I add a name to the appliance, is it a Gandy Dancer by any chance, as I guessed before it is a sort of compression slide hammer, powered by a rubber band that is fitted to the two curled pieces on the unit and is used for firing track nails through ties (sleepers)and into the roadbed.?:|

Looks like a model train uncoupler. You stick your finger in the roundish top part and slip the left end down through the couplers and turn with the framis toward the left end used to aid in moving the cars away from each other. Pete can you make one for me??? Thanks Gene
