Progress report #2

I locked the other thread. There is some good stuff in there that probably has been reposted in other threads. I'll check. In the meantime, here's another place to write. B-)

Well I started gluing up the foam in the pit. I'm going to build up the edges inward and then layer sheet foam on top which I will sculpt with the hot wire to a final shape. This area is where the town will go so I wil need a lot of flat spots for foundations. I envision the street sloping up toward the back which means stepped foundations ansd walks. I hope I'm not biting off more than I can melt.....you thought I was going to say chew, didn't you. BTW, did you know that melted glue is hot? B-)

Thanks Dot. That is the very first cast resin kit I have ever built. The stones are various washes of different colors of acrylic paints. Then I used the old standby weathering wash and finally Dulocte to seal it all. B-)

Barry, I refuse to answer that on the grounds of.....my coffee. Meanwhile, I'm going to have to build some more structures before I can finish the town site. I need to have the correct size to make the foundations. Also, I have to fix the background scenery and inside the dual tunnel before they get blocked off with the town. Now I've gone and made more work for myself. B-)

Took Father's Day off to go to a bbq at my nephew's birth mother's house. Confused? You should be inside my head trying to figure out who was related to whom and how. Food was good though. Missed the NASCAR race because it was not shown up here again. I heard that Edwards won though. The programmers could have shown the race but they decided that the US Open was more important and had it on three channels. Why? I can only watch one at a time. Stupid! Today I'll go back to the foam gluing. B-)

I saw some of it aired on TSN. It was late so I'm guessing it was aired after it was over. It's only Michigan. Usually thgat is a boring race.

Glued foam and more foam. Also glued up the long stretch of stone retaining wall. The area is starting to look like something now. I'm taking the rest of the afternoon off. My back hurts for all the odd positions one must get into building a miniature world. SmileyCentral.com

Today I'm going to put the liners in the tunnels that lead to the double deck bridge spans and install the portals if the paint dries on time. It's also my favorite day....... SmileyCentral.com

Still working on my low/medium relief (walthers 3 in 1) buildings for brewery. I'll get a photo of it today. 85% of structure is constructed. I've made a mod to it. Instead of regular garage doors and bumpers for semi-trailers, I am recessing that area so that the trailers are backed into the loading bays (in the bldg) several feet.

Lessons learned the hard way today. I put the tunnel liners in place, tested the fit by running the biggest engine, 2-8-0, through it and hot glued those suckers in place. Success. Or is that, SUCKS! I found out that what goes through forward may not go through backwrds. Turns out that al three of my tunnels will not accept the 2-8-0 in reverse. The cab of the engine has enough play, and the fit is so tight, that they will only go through forward; i either direction thankfully. So I just have to put an operational restriction on the layout that says; no backing through any tunnel. Go figure. I a\have some tight squeezes here.....that's what she said! The Shocked Fadda

Good news. I successfully (and completed) milled my kato frame and had the sound card functioning on the track. :D bad news is that the top of frame did close in as much as it should (gap wise) so the body was flaring out as I tried to slip it on. So strip it all down again and mill away more metal. I wish I kept the filings in a jar. You would sh^t when you saw the pile of metal that came off the frame since I started. Frame is washed and drying so taking a break. Then it is back to re-assembly again and hope things snug up more for the body to fit. Had I sent it away I woulda got my 20 bucks worth from Aztec. But if it something I can do, then why pay someone else to do it. If someone in the city wanted this done from me, i would be charging more than $20 to put in that sound decoder. X-(
