Old Trains

Hi guys, I got out some of my HO stuff last week & put some track together to run some of my old stock. What does the group suggest as far as maintenance of old engines before I put a spark to them. Most have been set up for 15 to 20 years & I'd hate to fry one out of ignorance. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Blane

Re Old Trains

Thanks Guys, Any reccomendations on track cleaner. I guess it'll be better in the long run to clean it all while in the mode. Has anyone used laquer thinner on a fiber pad? Would WD40 cut the crud & use achohol to put the polish back on it? Wheels of coarse. What am I looking to remove from the track? Just the accumalation of crud transferred from wheel to track? Still full of questions. Hoping for experience. Blane

Re Old Trains

Blane The easiest way to clean your track is with track cleaning cars. There are many differant types of cars out there so you can make up a "work train" of just cleaning cars. Just let it run while you are doing something else. Punk

Re Old Trains

Thanks Punk, Can you describe the cleaning process? Is it an abrasive pad, chemical rag, or what? If you spy any of them in the SP line give a shout. Blane

Well, its Christmas time and I have started the outside decorating and low and behold I came across some of my G-scale trains. Not much to do with them, but I at least took one of the boxes down and had fun "looking" at them. I wish they weren't so big as they would make a good addition to my tree this year! Just thinking about it, but at least I was able to "play" with trains if only for a short while today!

Re Old Trains

Hey Jack, Ever have a "Newfie Bullet" named for our famous cross-Province passenger train? 1oz. of Screech mixed with 1oz. of Kaluha over ice. It only works with Screech. Salud!

Re Old Trains

Screech is a very raw dark rum made in Jamaica and sold originally just here in Newfyland. It's not smooth or even tasty by itself. I'll send you some if I can although I know you don't drink much. SmileyCentral.com

Re Old Trains

Barry, A little write up on Screech, http://www.screechrum.com/ Here also is a picture story of people being initiated into the "SCREETCHERS" http://entertainment.webshots.com/album/85316446DPWCyz Pete, It's against my religous beliefs to dilute good liquor with liquid additives. Good liquor should be consummed in the following manner- Straight up, No ice - this goes for Screech, Single Malt Scotch and Crown Royal. Oh and a cold beer on the hot days. For those who like a Martini before your meal, here is the best recipe yet; Screech Martini 1-1/2 oz. screech Bottle of martini 2 peeled grapes Pour 1-1/2 oz. Screech into a Martini glass, previously chilled or on the rocks. Uncork the Martini bottle and wave the cork over the Martini glass being sure that no more than one drop from the Martini bottle gets into the Martini glass. Add the 2 peeled grapes and drink in one gulp without swallowing the grapes. Follow up with grapes as a chaser. Be sure to chew carefully. Do not confuse the ice cubes with the peeled grapes. (Other fruit can be substituted - bananas and large melons do not fit well into the glass.) Dry Screech Martini Follow the same recipe as above but uncork the Martini bottle in the next room away from the Martini glass. Sniff the cork before returning to drink the dry Martini. Watch out for the lumps. Hard means ice, soft means grapes. None means you already drank the Martini (usually refers to the 3rd and 4th Martini.) Jack
