Moving to Canada

So what do you guys think about all the talk south of the border of Americans moving to Canada if Trump is elected? Seems that George Clooney, Whoopie Goldberg, Al Sharpton and others say they will leave the US if he is elected. Well who cares? I have seen several You Tube skits made by Canadians that all seem to say no, we don't want you up here. Being a dual citizen myself, I am totally ashamed of the goings on down there. I don't vote down there any more but if I could I would check off the box that says "none of the above". I know there is no such choice, but there should be. I am amazed that these people have no loyalty to their country. Do they really think that Canada is a much better place to live? They never say why. So without getting in to the idologies of any particular candidate, what do you think about the circus and the jumping off the ship?

Pete,

Yea, the only people who would have a reasonable fear of the 2nd amendment are power hungry tyrants.

All the best,

Charles

Re: Moving to Canada

Turns out that my little town of Conception Bay South is not so safe after all. Saturday night there was a home invasion, as the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary calls it, and a man was abducted from his home by at least three armed and masked persons. This same man was later found dead in a driveway of another neighborhood about 5 kilometers away. No names released yet but he was 25 years old. Also, along with the home invasion, his house was set on fire.  It has been a big story on the CBC today. All sounds like a drug deal gone bad to me. We have had a couple of meth labs here, but no murders until now. This all happened about 10 kms from my house. We are catching up to the 20th century. I hope we never get to the 21st.

Re: Moving to Canada

It's a shame that stuff like that is reaching the small parts of canada.  The days of leaving your house unlocked or keys left in car are long gone.

I think you nailed it Pete....DRUGS!  25 y/o, 3 armed guys, house torched. not exactly a "normal" home invasion. I can't believe I used that term. Is that the political correct way of saying  broken into?   Actually from a military background I like that term. Invasion means I can then retaliate with use of force to defend my land...

To be honest Pete, I think it is almost harder to live in a place where crime is starting to happen than to live in a place where you expect it to happen. I wish you could just make the call to relocate (for other reasons) I know you're not truly happy living there.  no LHS, isolated on an island where it is expensive and time consuming just to get to mainland.

I was playing with gasbuddy.com and it said the other day that gas was 1.22/L in CBS. (it's 90.4 here)

Might be able to get a good deal on a house in AB due to owner desparate and laid off from the oil patch. NL's population probably doubled after production slowdown in Ft Mac.

Re: Moving to Canada

Our gas is $1.21 but that includes the extra 16.5 cents tax that the new Premier installed to help pay off the huge debt we have here. So our gas is really $1.04.5.  The closer you get to St. John's and the COSTCO there, the cheaper the gas gets.

We have decided to stay here no matter what. I mean the medical is good, I have 8 years invested in this layout, our landscape has grown to our liking, our neighborhood is quiet with mostly retired empty-nesters and we know everyone, the house is comfortable and in spite of my brother being in the US, we have no other family or ties to the US or any other part of Canada. So with all the pluses on one side and the few negs on the other, here we will stay. The weather sucks, but we found a place to finally retire if we can not handle the house any more.

Meanwhile, the hunt for the murderers goes on. The RNC has possibly identified the perps and are seeking their whereabouts. We are all sure it was drug related but of course the police are mum.

Re: Moving to Canada

So..... ..... .....

Are Hilly and Billy going to be the first ones to move to Canada?  H does not need to dodge the draft, but jail might be weighing on her mind....

All the best,

Charles PIC (sorry, politically incorrect...)

Oh, well, your gain is our loss....  We get to keep these guys in the states anyway...

All ther best,
