Most every structure on my layout has been made with plastic of some sort.(except for a scratch built wooden fire tower) I now have won a lazer cut kit and was wondering if it will go together like the plastic buildings or what problems will I run into trying to build this wood kit. I take it that lazer cut kits are wood? Thanks for any suggestions. Gene

Just finished the Bud Brewery for Ernie. Pics are up. Next project will be for Gene. The barn. Gene, you really should try a small wood laser kit, then you will truly know if you want to work with wood or not. Dot says not anymore. You might like it. One never knows, do one, and then one is never sure... By the way, find the duck... B-)

Great job on the brewery! I found the duck! (and the guy in an unusual place!) I know I said no more to the wood kits, but I do have another one I MAY try in the future! I can only repeat what you said to Gene, try it, you may like it!!! Structure kits are my favorite part of building the layout. Ask Ed, it drives him crazy but since he loves doing the rest it is a great combination for us! DZ

Pete, As I mentioned earlier I tried a JL Innovations small tower. Couldn't get much simpler. I think the highest part of the tower was the roof flat on the layout when I was done. I wouldn't make much of a Doctor...no patience!. I did resurrect the roof though on the scratchbuilt fire tower. you can see it in some of the pictures of the original layout near the mine. Gene

I can tell you all this, The CodFadda is the MASTER of kit building! I have several of his structures, and each & every one of them is a true piece of art! He is not only a wonderful person, but he is also an ambassador to this great hobby that we all love! Gene, if you send that kit to the master, you will not be disappointed. Great work Dad! CJ]:)

Praise the grand master. He is the best hands down. If you can get him to build a kit for you consider yourself lucky. It is even better than winning the lottery. The only down side is missing out on the experience of doing it yourself. Then learning and becoming almost as good a Pete. Myself, my kits are no where near as good as his, but I get the enjoyment of doing them. And I hope that someday to be at least half as Pete. LNF

Looks good Chuck. Hope ya got a place to put it. Nothing worse than finish building a structure and the area for it to go isn't ready for it. dave

Chuck, Looking good there. The more you do, the less time it will take for each one and the more you will find little tricks and shortcuts to do as well as adding more details and trying new techniques. Ain't this a great hobby? Just remember one thing. You are your own worst critic. If you are satisfied, then so be it! Most of the people looking at your work have no idea what is involved in creating the end result. What I mean here is please yourself and don't worry about the lookers who have no idea of your efforts. If anyone nit-piks your work, hand them a paint brush, a jar of paint and a bunch of plain kit parts and don't say a word....]:) You are going to be the DPM pro before you know it and we will all be asking you questions.....:D B-)

The parts came today for the theater and now it is finished. Photo posted. Your right Pete you learn as you go. I now no the transfers go on before you put the windows in. I was so excited about putting the kit together, I thought I had everything done then realized the transfers go on the outside not the inside. I followed your instruction about dry transfers and it all went fine except for the space to work with. Thank you all for the advice. Now starting kit 3. Chuck 🙂
