Design your own structures

I picked up on this site from another board. It looks interesting for the stuctures that they now have with the ability to add or delete different features. I ran the station through the procedure and it came out 35.85 plus 8.75 for N scale. A little bit pricey I think. It would be a great program if they were to offer a reasonable set of different construcion materials and allow you to design a building that would be unique to you and your layout. Follow the instruction on the site below to redesign some of the four items they now have--Have fun-- http://makemymodel.com/catalog/ Jack

Re: Design your own structures

Marc, If all she is doing is lettering, the answer is press-on letters or rub-on letters ot water-slide decals. For logos, see my previous postings. I used to do trophies for the bowling leagues with rub-ons and a lot of lacquer overcoat. Trophies actually should be etched in my opinion though. B-)

Re: Design your own structures

She will be doing "paintings" of Westies along with lettering. At least it only needs to be black and white. Marc

Re: Design your own structures

Here's a link to a company that is advertising in ModelRailroad Craftsman. They are doing what I was thinking about. http://www.pinewoodmodels.com/pages/structures.html Take a look at those prices for built kits! WOW! I gave Ernie two of those structures built and detailed. You owe me a bunch of money CJ 😮 Salunea's is going to cost you $750 big ones! :D I have to wonder how many customers they have and who in their right mind pays to have a kit glued together and not painted and detailed? Times have changed I guess. It used to be you could only get 3 times the kit cost as a fee if you were lucky. Now it looks like 10 times the kit cost is the norm. I should offer my services for half these guys prices and see how it goes. Big problem though; no web site. Anyone here a web master or what ever you call them? We didn't even charge that much for a scratch built custom architectural model in my real world job. I wonder how this company figures out their fees when another company, Scale University, offers kits at one price and totally finished models of the same kit for $20 to $30 more? Just blows my little mind. ?:| B-)

Pete, Ed was looking at that site one evening and he said the same thing you are saying! Whew, what a mark-up. You could probably set up a web site if your ISP offers any for free and then advertise it in certain magazines! It is really not that difficult. I did one once and it came out ok. I am not a "PRO" either, but I was able to add photos and several pages and even music to it! It waa easier than making an ad up for ebay! It would be worth a try if you truly want to do it! And with very little investment on your part. (just the cost of the advertisement in the magazines) Heck with your talent, just ad a "blub" onto some of your ebay auctions, join some online rr-ing clubs and you have it made for free advertising! I think there are lots of folks that don't feel they have the talent to put these kits together (probably haven't even tried to) and would be willing to pay for it. Just look at how they sell on ebay. Perhaps they don't get alot of money for them but they do sell. There are some that will pay for the service just because they were built "just for them!" Dot

Re: Design your own structures

I decided against down-loading anything from a free site such as an FTP. And I am not even sure about the ones you have to pay for; therefore, no web site for me. With all the worms and other creepy crawly things out there, I'll pass. I probably don't have the time anyway to make money. So, thanks for the idea Dot, but I shall remain in anonymity. B-)

Re: Design your own structures

Dad, As always, I am humbled in the presence of your greatness. For the above mentioned fee, I shall have to forward on to you my first born male child. Please be kind and gentle to him, he prefers to be called "Damien". I hope you like snakes, he'll be bringing a few. CJ:D
