I just won a set of Overland Athearn passenger cars. What order from the loco back would these cars run in a consist. There are a combine which would be right behind the loco but what comes next? There is also a coach, a business car and a sleeper in the set. How do I tell a business car from a coach from a sleeper? Gene

Wouldn't the ERA: 1880 - 1940 also require a caboose? I remain Gene

Car order

Two coaches together, and freight trains had caboose, passenger trains had a conductor no caboose. ]:)

Car order

Sometimes so-called "Peddler Freights" had a passenger coach, baggage and/or a combine in with the freight car mix. The order of cars in the mix depended upon where the freight and passenger stations were located at the stops to be made. Sometimes the passenger cars were right behind the engine followed by the freight cars and a caboose; sometimes the passenger cars were at the rear following the caboose or instead of the caboose. These are small consists we are talking about. Are you totally cornfuzed now? B-)
