Car order

I just won a set of Overland Athearn passenger cars. What order from the loco back would these cars run in a consist. There are a combine which would be right behind the loco but what comes next? There is also a coach, a business car and a sleeper in the set. How do I tell a business car from a coach from a sleeper? Gene

coach and sleepers have different window placement, coach is just standard windows along the side, same as the kato super chief coach cars, the business car usually has a viewing platform on the rear of the car, most consists would be, combine, coach, sleeper then business car. ]:)

After receiving the Athearn Overland set it was not as evident as I thought in identifying the business car from the sleeper. All cars have a front and back platform so that was not a way. One car has oval windows at one end on each side and the other car has one oval window slightly off of the mid line of the car. Athearn affirms that the car with one oval window mid line centered is the business car. I have also ordered and extra coach so I can have 5 cars in the consist. They have green tinted clerestory windows and are quite well detailed. They look good traveling the layout. They even will look better behind a steamer with sound and DCC equipped! Now I am looking for a Puritian Malt decaled car for my Hop house! Gene

Gene If the puritan malt car was released through micro trains, check jointlinenscale he has heaps of early kadee and M/T cars in store, or maybe steamer6060, both worth a try, happy hunting ]:)

Happy New Year!! Barry, There is one Puritan Malt car on ebay for 24.95 plus 6 something for shipping. I just have to figure if it is worth it or not. I am toying with the idea of decaling an old boxcar with something indicating hops on board. It is an MTL car and in the end I just may bite the bullet! Gene getting ever lazy in the old year!

Barry, By the way steamer6060 didn't seem to be with ebay anymore. I think I won something from that person quite a while ago. The other one you mentioned had a lot of stuff but no Puritan Malt car.Thanks for the help. Gene

Gene steamer6060 is still there I bought a hopper from him on Friday, if you do have a look in his store there are quite a few early reefers and packing company box cars listed quite cheaply.How about a New York Despatch 40' reefer for $14.25 there are others you may be able to use as well, if you are having trouble finding him go to your feedback and click on his feedback score then open items for sale go to his store and then open MTL rolling stock, as I said he does have some good stuff for sale, and it is within ebay so no worries. ]:) -- Edited by barrysfp45 at 12/31/2007 6:43 PM -- Edited by barrysfp45 at 12/31/2007 6:49 PM

Barry I did find steamer6060 and went through all 71 pages. If he has that inventory on hand he has got a lot of $$ tied up in it. Anyway he does have some interesting not usually found stuff. I think I will do a BIN for the Puritan Malt car. I am not a big fan of advertising for alcohol or tobacco products ( But not a teatotaler either)! Hop houses have been in this area's history and I have been in one that is a replica of one and have a hop house on the layout. In regard to the Athern four car set of combine, coach sleeper and business car- if I add one more coach to the four car set would the two coaches be one behind the other or would the sleeper car be between them? Gene
