If your eBay app is requiring an update here are the steps to get updated. We recommended you install any system updates that are available for your device.
iOS -
*If your device has iOS 16 the app store will say you need iOS 17 (see screenshot), but it should still download a version to your phone. If you are on iOS 15 or older you can continue to use eBay in your browser.
Android -
If you are on Android 10 or older you can continue to use eBay in your browser.

The new version won't work on some older devices.
You can still do it the old way, use the browser and go to ebay.com

If your operating system does not support the latest version of the eBay app and you cannot update your operating system or use a previous version that is still supported, it should still be possible to use a mobile browser to go to ebay.com or ebay.co.uk and use eBay that way.
If you are using iOS 15, see instructions here for installing a compatible version of the eBay app:

If eBay browser links are opening in the app automatically, iOS users should be able to tap and hold an eBay browser link and select "don't open in the app" to prevent that from happening.

It seems like you're facing an issue with updating the eBay app because it requires iOS 16 or newer, which isn't compatible with your current phone. Unfortunately, if your device cannot support this update, you might not be able to install the latest version of the app. However, there are a few workarounds you can try. One option is to use eBay’s mobile website, which offers most of the same features as the app, such as browsing listings and managing your account. You could also check the App Store to see if an older version of the eBay app is available for download, as sometimes the store offers previous versions compatible with older iOS versions. If your phone is quite outdated, it might be worth considering an upgrade to a newer device that supports iOS 16, allowing you to use the most recent version of the eBay app. Alternatively, you could contact eBay support for further assistance, as they may have additional solutions or suggestions.

According to the below post from an eBay rep, the UK stopped supporting older operating systems. Android 10 and iOS 17 appear to be the minimum operating system requirements for the eBay app in the UK.

If your device cannot upgrade the OS, you should still be able to access https://www.ebay.co.uk/ using a web browser on your device.
If links are automatically opening in the app you can change your settings and force them to open in your web browser, or you can delete the app which will default links to opening in your device's web browser.

Thanks for getting these formal updates out - perhaps you can de-pin this thread devon@ebay since Liz's new thread is pinned. 😁

There is a way to continue using the app on your ios15 device. Open the app so the pop-up displays. Open a browser and log in to eBay. At the top of your browser window, you should see a banner saying ‘eBay: buying and selling online, open in the eBay app’, with a blue ‘open’ button. Click the button and you will be swapped over from browser to app, and the pop-up will disappear. The app will now be fully functional.

For how long before the message appears again @2paranoid ?

I don’t know, but it hasn’t appeared again for me since using this workaround. @wastingtime101

Brilliant work around, thanks!
Goes to prove that it's not an inherent problem, but an artificial block that's been deliberately implemented. Incredible. It's so bad that they've blocked the visibility of reviews in the app store because all the new ones were so negative!

There is a workaround for this problem, as described above. For clarity, here's a pictorial guide to it. Open the app and leave it open. Open safari and login to eBay uk, then click on the human icon to go to my eBay. Then click on the "open" button, which switches you back to the app and unlocks it, works fine for me 👍
