Re: Update to app

You’re right, my review is not visible.  I prefer the app, it’s quick and it was easy.
I don’t have enough time or screen size to go “ on line”

Re: Update to app

eBay and apple suck for doing this? I will not buy a new iPad.

Re: Update to app

This “fix” isn’t really good enough if I go to eBay through Google when I try and view an item it diverts me to the app and then it says update or exit. It’s ridiculous that we can’t use the app and we can’t update either. What are you going to do about it ?

@bmwe36manantoni If your OS is too old to support the app, you need to delete the app so all links open in your browser instead of booting up an outdated app.

Re: Update to app

Is that the “fix” then like one of the previous comments said the whole point in the app is that it is easier to use and navigate. The fact that the conversation title says solved is laughable

Re: Update to app

If you don't want to upgrade your device, deleting the app and using the web browser is the option available for you to access eBay.

Friend of mine had an older phone (iPhone 7 with iOS 15) and several of their apps stopped working in the last few months because they're no longer supporting older operating systems that probably won't get any more security updates. Friend decided to get one of the newer phone models.

That's how it goes. Not saying I like how the tech companies push us to keep upgrading expensive devices, just saying it's not an eBay thing.

Re: Update to app

Typical isn’t it. They are offering a €10 discount via the app but my phone is too old to support the iOS yet I don’t wish to change it. It has a large memory and was the last model made with a headphone jack

Re: Update to app

Lovely answer. Well done.

However… then try to open the (cr)APP, and it insists that you update the thing. Then you begin the loop of not having the right operating system.
then some techie tells you about the value of up to date software, and the eBay story. Like you didn't know this already. How do they find these gems?

You should be able to use a browser on your phone to go to ebay.co.uk instead of using the app.

Re: Update to app

I'm on the Android side of phone ecosystem and aware of the application's constant deprecation of older system versions upon version updates.  Not amused w/such eB's practice at all; this is despicable.

Have a few Android phone devices, all not current models (ie. a few years old).  Android system versions are capped at a certain version on those phones.  Back in early 2024 my Note 4 (capped at system 6.0.1) lost access to the app (ie. nag screen asking for update) so I switch my eB routines on a Note 9 (capped at system 10) as well as another device.

I only recently got reminded of the eB app's minimum system requirements and feel sorry for those surviving on older phones capped at system 9 (or below).  Why eB can't retain some legacy system compatibility is simply beyond understanding.  And given such questionable software development pattern/protocol, I fear that sooner or later all system 10 devices will face the chopping board as well (when newer application versions require system 11+ for no valid reason), meaning you'll have to move to another device running higher system versions for the "in-app" experience.

Meanwhile, using eB on mobile browser environment is not a pleasant experience at all.  Quite some lags (due to network issues) are expected, amongst other concerns.

Simply put, just not content w/this application's situation on killing legacy system compatibility on such frequent approach/cycle.

Re: Update to app

This is not an eBay issue @mrgaijin00 . You'll find many apps incompatible with older operating systems. A friend of mine recently upgraded their phone because they had 5 different major apps incompatible with their older device and eBay wasn't even on the list.

eBay keeps the app available as long as possible with older operating systems, but eventually there are security issues with outdated devices, or new features that require the tech on newer OS to function.
