Sign-in on old versions broken

Trying to sign in on old versions of the eBay app doesn't work anymore. When I try to sign in, of course using the right username and password, a message pops up saying "Provided user does not match with user that security token was issued to (SOA.Security.Request.21021"). This happens on version 2.0.2 and version 3.3.1. Oddly, sign-in on version 1.7.2 still works fine. This is quite a shame as I own several older iOS devices that cannot run a newer version of iOS or the eBay app.

Hello. Yes older app versions have been shut down. If you are unable to get the latest OS we recommend using the mobile website on your device.

"Solution" doesn't look lika a solution to me.
Not really helpful ;-(
