Cancelling an order is up to the seller

I purchased an item late in the evening on the 11th. A few minutes later, I realize that I could get a better deal somewhere else. I put a cancellation request to ebay. It was up to the seller to accept the cancellation if the item had not been shipped. According to the shipment tracker, it was shipped 6pm on the 12th.

The cancellation was denied. I think the seller chose to ignore the cancellation request and used the "item already shipped" as the reason. I would imagine that it was not in the seller's interest to cancel. When the seller has many of the same item to sell, and it's a buy it now, why lose on a paid transaction?

It's not a big deal. I lost a slightly better deal. But I think the cancellation process might not always work without some check and balance from eBay. Sorry for the rant!
