Is this a marble?

My hubby found this buried in the dirt of an old, old barn. At first he thought it was an old shooter but now we are not so sure. It measures close to an inch and weighs almost 3 oz. It is somewhat rough in spots but I can't find any seams.  If it's not a marble can someone please direct me elsewhere?

Yes, it is an old glazed clay marble. Some call it a Bennington.
