Category Changes

Mark the downfall of eBay in the Antiques and Collectibles market as May 2021.  They are now consolidating so many of the categories that even More people that are tired of wading thru the junk will now have to search even harder because of the vast categories they are creating.   More people will just give up looking, Prices will fall and less will list quality items thus even less will bother looking as it spirals down the toilet.  Thanks eBay for your careful consideration obviously by someone who has no idea what they are dealing with in regards to items categories they have consolidated - RIP.

Thank you for your feedback on the planned changes in Antiques categories.  The changes we are making here are all to either move categories to be product based or to consolidate listings where we can see multiple similar categories in which an item could be listed. For example in Antique Furniture we are removing the category levels for Age Range from the category structure and replacing them with an item specific. So instead of listing in the 1800-1899 Bookcases category you will instead list in the Antique Bookcases category, and will be asked to select an item specific for Time Period Manufactured. This should allow easier listing for sellers as there are fewer categories to review, and allow us to surface filters for Age Range at the same level as furniture type so buyers will be able to choose if they want to browse and review listings by Product or Age Range. The changes also allow us to align categories globally giving buyers and sellers access to a truly global marketplace. Thank you again for taking the time to share this valuable feedback, and for choosing eBay! Kind regards, Arthur

As far as Antiques it was eliminating the Deco and Art Nouveau categories that I noticed but not as worried about those as I am about the changes in Bottles - Are you putting them all under one heading with no subcategories.??  Also are you seriously combining Jars with boxes and tins.  If you Really want to help me please explain how those changes will benefit any buyer or seller.  No response needed on these but Also vintage Christmas and Halloween to name a few others but it is really the bottles and jars I would like an explanation on.

For Bottles we currently have 3 overlapping collectible bottle categories for sellers and buyers to select from.  These are:

  • Collectibles>Decorative Collectibles>Decorative Collectible Brands> Avon> Bottles
  • Antiques > Decorative Arts > Glass > Bottles
  • Antiques > Decorative Arts > Glass > Perfume Bottles

They are all being combined into one new category Collectibles > Decorative Collectibles > Bottles. Which will simplify the experience for Sellers as we will only have one category for Collectible bottles, and make it easier for buyers as we can surface all inventory in one location. Details such as the Brand of the bottle (Avon) and the type of bottle (Perfume) will be captured as new Item Specifics.

Similarly for the Boxes, Jars and Tins we are combining these new products into one category to align with the existing experience in Home and Garden and provide a dedicated space for collectible tins which at present are listed in Other. As with Bottles we are providing new Item Specifics which will still allow buyers to filter for the type of product they want. Thank you again for taking the time to share this valuable feedback, and for choosing eBay! Kind regards, Arthur
