2009!

Taz, Newfoundland is amazing! It is a campers dream. It is part of the Appalachians and is rugged and untamed. The people are so friendly and fun and when you add that almost every town has a water view (Atlantic Ocean), it is ideal. We were hoping to get back one more time and if we can get Al's heart straightened around, we will do it. If he would just cooperate and win the lottery, I would rent a house in Newfoundland for a year and experience all 4 seasons. St. Johns (their capital) has the same climate in the winter as Detroit Michigan. Hope you get a chance to see it all in person. Cape Bretton is another "must see".

The nearest Mary and I have been to Newfoundland is Bar Harbor, Maine and that was for only a few days in the summer. I would love to take us back during the fall sometime in the future. Jon.

It is amazing. You have the ocean crashing in at you on one side of the road and mountains (although small compared to the ones you are used to) with waterfalls on the other side of the road. Every turn brings a new experience. The people are so friendly that if you need to use a telephone you just stop at any house. Of course they will probably have you for tea before you use the phone and then ask you to stay for a Jigs Dinner (Maggie & Jiggs of the comics. Corned beef & cabbage was Jiggs favorite meal). They are party people. They have what they call 'kitchen partys'. Someone always brings a fiddle, guitar or whatever instrument and they sing and dance. If you put a bottle on the table then you must open it. If you open it, you must throw away the cap because it must be consumed. There are no antique shops because each generation passes their things to the next and they USE it all! They are service oriented people and feel the best reward is in helping others. They haven't been tainted by commercialism. It is a number one "must go" to place. Al & I both feel we would rather go to Newfoundland than Hawaii.

We are pumped for a trip down east after reading your post on Newfoundland. This summer we are going to head west, Seattle and hopefully a side trip to Glacier National Park. I am looking at campgrounds around Hungry Horse, Mt.(don't you just love that name?) if everything works our way a little this may turn into a three week campout for us. That is about all we can fit in until retirement. I'm not complaining mind you, three weeks is great. Jon.

Oh, how exciting. I love Seattle (born there) and Mt. St. Helens is amazing to see but the Oregon coast and the Columbia River are beautiful! There is just sooooo much to see in the beautiful country of ours. Al and I figure we don't have time to go overseas, there's too much to see and do right here! That's great if you can get out and do that, Jon. The weather has been mild. Just enough little pockets of rain. Right now, winds are blowing but it's great. No heater or a/c needed... You will enjoy the west coast. I wish I could make it to Newfoundland. That is an ideal place. THanks, C & A, for showing us that! taz -- At Addicted to Hemp, we do embroidery, sublimation, quilting, painting, sewing, and upholstery with natural fabrics such as hemp, tencel, silk, and cotton. Any time. We have pics from all our trips. I mean we have 4" thick albums of each trip! What were we thinking???? Right now our first Newfoundland trip album is at someone house for them to take their time to look thru. I label every picture so who ever is looking isn't lost. Makes it easier and you don't have to say, "Where was that?" I did put one picture in up-side-down with a caption of, "Yes, I know it's upsidedown but I just wanted to see if you were still awake." Another picture has the caption, "I don't remember where or when but we sure must have thought it was pretty at the time!"

I have been trying to load some travel picture on this site but have not been successful as of yet. I am not very literate and when Mary and I work on it together we wind up telling each other how to do it and neither one of us knows a bleedin thing about it. After 40 years she still thinks she is smarter than me and I am sure she is wrong. Jon

Not that I can be much help if you don't have a Mac, but do you use Photobucket? If you continue to have trouble you can always eMail the pictures to me (harrow@localnet.com) and I will post them for you.

I guess everyone is off camping. Oh well, Al and I are stuck here at home. He is feeling much better and getting a bit of the "let's go camping" bug but with it being this late in the winter, I don't see the point! Nice weather is only 4 weeks away! I'm counting the days until spring. >font size=4>53 Days till Spring

This winter is doing a number on me as well. I have been subbing for our day guy at school and out of the last 19 days 15 have been weather events. That means I have an extra couple of hours of stuff to do, plow/shovel snow, salt walks, mop floors as the wee ones come in from the buses and etc. I have been getting up at the crack of night and am at school around 430AM so I can get everyone in as safe as I can make it. Snowbirding sounds really great to me this year. Jon

The older I get, the more I hate winter and the more it seems to actually hurt! I am finding this year that the cold wind actually burns and my hands, wrists and ankles are really feeling the cold. I guess you take the bitter with the sweet, retirement and getting older. Oh well, I do enjoy retirement. Claudia

Can spring be far away??? We are at -11 wind chill with 11 as our actual temp but they claim it is warming up to a whole 43 this weekend! WOW! a heat wave. That should melt the ice on the roofs and the snow in the yard and turn the driveway into a huge puddle! Oh what fun for the pup, wet dirty feet. Ugh. I really, Really need to go camping. No, I really really need to be someplace WARM!!! LOL
