Thoughts on this necklace. Newer or what?

First pardon the pic. This was in my junky stuff but the chain is throwing me off.  Older or newer?  Would be an easy fix if needed.

What kind of closure does it have? I can't tell from the picture.

Makes me think of a bicycle chain. I have seen other jewelry pieces on Ebay described as "bicycle chain" whatever.

Is there a large stone missing from the oval dangle?

Thanks for the additional picture. My 2 cents worth. It has a vintage vibe to me. But wait till the real experts before making a decision.

Yes the oval is missing. I have an emerald that would fit there.  It has a spring ring closure but don’t know if it’s original.  Another pic of stone settings might help

The necklace appears to be costume - but the foil backed facets also are more worn than the chain.  I wouldnt put a real emerald on that.

I wouldn’t either. No I have an emerald colored rhinestone oval that would fit nicely. 😀. I should have been clearer.
