These pearls went for baroque - what did they hit?

I'm trying to figure out if they're anything special.  They're cultured, you can see the "seed" in some of them that didn't close properly, but the nacre is really thick.  They're not cheap Chinese freshwaters for sure.

whats the clasp made of? it looks like a good clasp if its original

It's marked "silver", so I'm presuming it's got some age on it. It's a classic pearl fish hook clasp, so it's not Chinese despite the mark.  The pearls pass the tooth test too with flying colors.

Hummm, if they weren't cultured, based on the SILVER mark I might guess Scottish.

I've had a strand like this before, also with a clasp simply marked silver.

My take is that they are older (and by that I mean prior to 1970) ...Japanese Akoya Baroque pearls.

They're on cotton, so Japanese would fit.

Except that these aren't empty. One looks like it is, but if you look in the hollow end you'll see the round bead it was cultured on.
