I think I figured it out.... I think it's Anthony & Cleopatra!  You can see she has an egyptian like headress with that snake standing up

I think the subject is Roman Soldier and Goddess. It does look like a Roman Soldier with the shield and headress.

I think the long hair hanging out from the helmet is why I thought both were women.

I think they both are women because neither one has an adam's apple.  A woman in a helmet with a shield could be the goddess Athena, but I don't know who the other one would be...
