I recently came into ownership of a couple Coach bags. One I know is real the other I am guessing is a fake but would love help confirming. It’s a small black backpack with silver hardware. Reason I think its fake is I don’t think the numbers H4B were used for any other than travel bags or brief cases and it has Coach stamped out the outside flap which I also think isn’t something they do.
The full serial number is H4B-0511

Not all "H4B" bags are fake!
H4B isn't a "fake prefix." If seen on a genuine Coach bag, it's perfectly valid.
What isn't valid is when fake bags have H4B-05XX serial numbers. (XX = various numbers).
ETA: There are some prefixes that are ONLY on fakes and ALWAYS invalid.
H4B is NOT one of them.

I said 'H4B' is a 'Famous' fake prefix, which it is. I have seen many more examples of fake 'H4B' prefixes than real. This bag has many more problems, mostly its not even leather, and construction and hardware is wrong. BTW, There are Real 'H4B-05XX' stamps, Those are not all fake like suggested. Here's a sample.

I think you've misread my post. I didn't suggest that all H4B-05xx bags are fake.
What I said is "What isn't valid is when fake bags have H4B-05XX serial numbers." I never said nor implied that H4B-0515 or any H4B-05xx is always fake.

@sandimas and compadre(s):
Here's a bit more information for your files. Please stop trying to confuse other posters. I've boldfaced and used colored font to make my point clearer.
H4B-prefixes are:
1- Provably ALWAYS fake when used in handbags with stamped "style numbers" beginning with -05** or -5**. Style numbers between -500 and -594 or -0500 and -0594 belong to travel and business bags and items.
Some genuine handbags can have H4B- prefixes, like this one:
and some Fake handbags can have H4B- prefixes, like this:
"H4B-"is a valid prefix. It's the details of the item that prove it fake, not the prefix by itself. It's NOT like J8Y- or PIT-or NT- which are ACTUAL" "famous fake prefixes" that HAVE NEVER BEEN USED BY COACH and prove a Coach is fake with no other evidence needed, and it's not like the prefix in the bag questioned by the OP which is fake because of fake hardware, an incorrect style number, and all-over "elephant-skin" leather caused by severe processing damage. The serial prefix in that fake has no connection to the fact that the bag is an illegal and very bad counterfeit. It would still be recognized as fake regardless of what valid or invalid serial number prefix was stamped in it.
Something that's "famous" is something that's easily recognizable as an exceptional example of its type. There's a difference in using the word for "the famous actress Meryl Streep" compared to "the famous actress Thumbelina Belchikowski, who's appearing as 'Revolutionary woman #3' in the Romeoville Sanitary And Ship Canal Dinner Playhouse's production of "Les Miserables ", tickets still available at box office and your neighborhood 7-11"

It is a fact that the prefix 'H4B' i associated with more fakes than real. I have no idea what you are talking about comparing oranges to pineapples.
