While the center looks a bit like Fire agate, the iridescent edges make me think lampwork glass.

I agree with Dichroic glass. I spent 15 years digging for Black Opal in the Virgin Valley, NV,  (Royal Peacock, Rainbow Ridge, and Bonanza) and that does not look like black opal -- it looks like Dichroic glass. So without seeing it in person, that's what I would think.

It would be helpful to see the back to see what the bail is attached to.  A lighter photo would help too.  But I tend to think it is glass in large part because no one would mount an opal like that.  I suspect it is glued on to a simple flat back setting?
