I think that this is a clear case of abuse of the return system. I copied this question and paragraph from the ebay page regarding "hassle free returns" . Depending on the cost of the item I'd contact ebay and see if you can get a ruling that says buyer pays return shipping, because your listing didn't say they were WARM gloves. Make sure you say that to the person you call and give the buyers reason for return as doesn't keep her hands warm.
What if I suspect buyer abuse?

In all the years I've been selling on ebay...since 2003...I've had only one time where a buyer won a dispute against me. Why don't you just let them file and let ebay/paypal decide?

With the "hassle free" managed return program the customer can't file a case first. So when the buyer starts return and chooses reason SNAD then they seller pays for returns no matter what their own policy says OR if the customer just "SAYS" not as described because they are dishonest like this customer.
Otherwise the seller can choose to pay for return shipping or not.
The reason EBAY has the rule about reporting a buyer if they abuse the returns process is for cases like this. Seller even admited that the gloves didn't keep their hands warm but listing didn't promise that, they were fingerless.
You just have to make sure you refer to the policy and qoute the question and answer I posted from the link so the script reading customer service person can't just automatically rule against you. Not saying the still won't.
One of things that bugs me about this program is that returns are not required to be insured, they will have tracking but no insurance if the least expensive method doesn't included it. Sometimes I use priority even though first class cost less because the item is breakable or over $25.00.
That's my two plus cents 🙂

What ended up happening was I called Ebay & they handled it. When I did the report - I used the opportunity to alert Trust & safety that since the hassle free return is "new" this is a glutch that needs to be looked into & maybe that they should make some changes - like if the buyer chooses not as described they open it up for the biyer/seller to discuss.
This was where I went wrong. I called Ebay when it 1st happened to ask what to do since it was a new problem & I heard others were running into it. I got disconnected when getting transferred so I thought maybe this 1 time I should try to work this out. it was a pretty new person who was selling with around 200 transactions. I ended up making it worse I guess & instead of responding to me she left neg feedback which ebay ended up feeling that needed to be removed.
They then told me if she returns the product I don't have to issue the refund but just because the buyers scandalous doesn't mean I need to be. Since I have a weird selling setup where I need to keep track of charity $ then my own crochet $ if I do something wrong I usually just eat it myself & don't make the seller send the product back if it's a hassel. But if things like this Ebay just allows buyers to have free reign it will make the charity have concearns & someday I would like to help them open their own ebay setup after I really know what I'm doing enough to get this going. It's a great opportunity since they train disabled people to work - if I can do it - it's definately a whole new program they need to get into but someone is going to need to volunteer & I already have so much invested time wise in learning ebay I just want to put it to use.
She said I listed them as winter gloves & didn't mention they were fingerless. Some people just don't read the listings.
I was going to send her another message saying that she can still return them if she'd like & we figured I can do the return like we use to & use her tracking number as the RMA but I don't think it's a good idea. If they were defective I just wouldn't have had her send them back it's such a waste sometimes plus I live in CA so not many people at my hospital could use the gloves anyways...

re: tokerschick
Gee whiz you are sure going thru a lot with your customer. Can tell reading your postings you really put your heart and soul into what you do. You seem to have gone over and above the normal trying to find a way to make your buyer happy.
The part where you are working on charity and helping the disabled be able to work. This is another special thing you are doing from your heart and soul. You are trying to help those who are not doing well do a little better.
I just got released from the Rehab and my head is fuzzy. Writing this in a lying down position so it may not be real well done.
Over the years I did lots of work with helping disabled people do better and find work. Be happier and motivated.
Keep on posting here you sure are in the right place. You will find out there are a lot of kind caring members here. We even have a big group hug anyone know where that is?
Wishing you the best

Wow, that was a lot of hassle. At least ebay stood by the seller this time and removed the negative feedback. I am with you though, if the customer does send it back on their
dime I would just give a refund too.
Still not sure if I want to opt into the "hassle free" returns yet though.
I think I will wait until they make it mandatory like they did in the UK.

Looking back we have had 2 returns in the past year. We do not seem to need a 3rd party to help us with that....?
Anyone else using the return program ebay offers?

This was a very popular topic for quite a while. It seems to have gotten pushed down. So I am bringing it back.
There are a lot of good conversations in this topic.
Good luck selling,

I don't have this problem but a friend of mine is having a major problem with eBay holding her funds. She tells me that if a buyer has a problem with an item they can't get in touch with her directly. They have to open up a dispute with eBay and then eBay will hold her funds until it all gets straightened out.
Is this something new? I haven't had any problems with buyers in years so I don't know. Any advice you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Is she a new seller?

The new "Get What You Ordered or Your Money Back" Ebay is doing has really gotten behind the buyers.
A friend of ours made a purchase on ebay. When it arrived it was not the item in the picture. You should have seen this deal it was terrible.
She sent a very nice message to the seller asking to return the item. The seller told her "all sales final no returns"
She filed a resolution. Seller said the same thing "no returns all sales final".
She got all of her money back and did not have to return the item.
She returned it anyway. but got all of her money back.
So if you sell items not as described you could have some big problems.
Same as yo solonoir we have never had problems either. We work hard to make buyers happy.
Nice to see you posting Denise.

She is a seller, not a buyer, and says she is unable to contact buyers if they have a problem. I don't understand it at all.

Also, she sells mostly brand new items and some of them can't be returned if the package is opened. She tells me it's a health code thing.
07-21-2014 11:02 AM
If there is a health code involved, it sounds like she is selling cosmetics or OTC meds.
What exactly is she selling?
