Selling Issues And Tips

Hey, Janet, I didn't know it was your birthday recently ... happy belated birthday.

Makes me think we ought to start a birthday thread if folks are willing to share their birthdays ... year not necessary ... what do you think?

Selling Issues And Tips

Thought I would bump up this topic as I need a little assistance and this seemed the best place to ask.

I wonder if any of you know how I can find my current ebay and paypal fees.  I sold a couple of handbags and I need to know how much ebay charged for fees so I can decuct that from the sale amount.  Any light shed on this is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

If you go to "MY ACCOUNT" and find your way to "ACCOUNT SUMMARY" you should see a line where it says 'RECENT ACTIVITY NOT YET BILLED" That should tell you what you want to know. Hope this helps.

Solinoir just gave you some good information.

Here is another one that over time becomes a very nice report to have.

1. Go to "My Ebay"

2. Pull down on the button that says "Account"

3. Click on "Subscriptions"

4. Click on "Sales Reports Plus"

They will ask you some questions like they do all the time. There was no cost to this when we signed up for it. It gives you fabulous reports to go over every month.

Again this morning:

Happy you found the things we were both posting. Lots of things hidden everywhere in Ebay. Did you enroll in those "Sales Reports Plus?"

Been finding out most every day is a good day to list. Seems to keep different people coming all the time.

What do you find are your best days and times to list items?

Many years ago ebay did a study. They found that auctions ending on Sunday were the most successful. Since so many items listed are no longer auctions I guess it really doesn't matter. If I am doing auction style, I make sure the auction is closing before people leave work or after they get home. I'm assuming that travel time isn't bidding time...but these days who knows Cat Tongue

I remember that Ebay study you are talking about. We've been finding being consistent with new listings works well.

We had another Ebay account going way back around 1998 or so. Somehow we let it lapse not sure how. My wife cancelled it cause they had such high fees back then it was insane.

I've heard the theory of mid afternoon and after work endings. In the winter it must be different than the summer. My thinking being more people are at home in the winter. We seem to do better in the winter.

I find it depends on what I am selling. With the motorcycle parts, weekends don't work because most people are out riding. I used to list on Monday nights figuring that's when they'd be looking for parts to replace the ones they crashed. I know that sounds terrible but it's true. Thursday night was good for shops.

If I'm selling something I think appeals to men, I avoid any time there may be a sporting event on TV. If I'm selling to women I try to target what I used to think of as quiet time...which usually meant after the kids were in their room for the night.

I honestly don't know if any of that matters any more. It's been a while since I sold enough to be a power seller and I'm not getting the kinds of info I used to get. I know that I was doing some business in groups on Facebook but that's died out completely. I've really got to explore Etsy.

Selling Issues And Tips

Re: soloinar

Sounds like you really have some good knowledge of selling on here. We do better on Mondays recently for some reason. Maybe your thoughts on them watching football games is a good one. So here they are on Monday.

Winter is best for us too. This is usually the best month. Selling collectibles that makes sense. Nice weather they are outside. Winter they are inside. Ladies like the collectibles and so do men. Selling my lifetime collection. We are tired of paying all those safe deposit box rentals. No family members have interest in any of it.

We sell on Etsy. Its very good for ladies things. Things they can use to make something with. Old jewelry. Nice friendly people there too.

Anyone else reading our postings if you have thoughts on all this please post it.

Take care,

DWB

I've decided that I'm going to take most of my antiques out to CA with me. I didn't unpack them and I figure that'll give me something to do out there when it's sunny, 60 degrees, cool breeze blowing off the Bay...LOL.

All kidding aside, I'm thinking that I'll do better selling out there than here. People here have no money because there are no jobs. It's also a bit of a security blanket for me. Not much but at least I know that I can go to a consignment store out there and make a few bucks if I need to.

As soon as I feel better I'm going to put some things up on etsy. I'm not sure if I have the flu or if it's just this crazy weather. Yesterday it was 63 degrees. Right now it's 22.

Sure going to be nice when you move out there. You been looking forward to this for a long time. Its good for us to look forward to something. That's what keeps our bodies healthy.

Sorry to hear you feel lousy flu like. It may be the weather swings you are talking about. Thats nuts what a change. We are going down in the 20s here. For Florida thats unusual.

Selling on etsy is nice. We sell there and here too. We sell lots more here than on Etsy. This is a better place to sell. Have you ever tried the "buy it now" listings on here? They work real good when you are also auctioning things.

What works well for us:

When we list an auction item, we ask them to look at our other items while you are here. And we set up the hot spot they can click on to go to our other items. Seems to help a lot with selling the buy it now things.

Stay warm,

DWB

Nope...it's the flu. We have an epidemic here. They're restricting visitors to the hospitals it's so bad. Apparently the flu shot they gave out here is only 40% effective. I can't get a flu shot anyway...allergic.
