Help identify brass portrait finial stamped LP (EP?) & Co

Can anyone tell me about this finial? It looks like it is for a lamp. It measures about 3" tall. Whose image is it? Thanks!

I'd say it's supposed to be Shakspeare.

I'd say the same, although it's an unconvincing portrayal.

Maybe it's another man of the same name.  You know, the guy Mark Twain referred to when he entered the great debate and declared that the plays of William Shakspeare were not written by William Shakspeare but by another man of the same name.

Shakespeare was my first thought as well. Can't remember what I Googled to bring this up - but this looks like yours.

ETA: Google "Shakespeare finial" look at images ... that's where it popped up.
