Europa C&O #375: Nassau-Weilburg-Saarbrucken 1/2 Batz- [15]91.

13 de Julio 2018:  Greetings to all coin collectors where-ever you might be.  And a very happy Friday 13.   Different coin issuing entity #375 is shirly a fine example of fun coin collecting.   Heron added this item to his 'want list' in 1988.  Yes, 30 years to find a reasonably priced example.   However, the line has been drawn through the 'want list' item and we go forward searching for other items.

In addition, Heron wants to say the he DOES NOT think up these fine 'entity' titles.

This coin is actually from Nassau-Weilburg-Saarbrucken.   Also, a word or 2 regards the woid Saarbrucken.   In medieval Franconian Dialect it was spelt Saarbrigge.  It would not be difficult to see the 'origins' of the English woid Bridge.

[In Hoch Deutsche Brucken = Bridge]

The Coin: Nassau-Weilburg-Saarbrucken-1/2 Batzen-Silver-91-20mm.

Obverse: At center are Coat of Arms N-W-S.

Legend surrounding: ALB. C. A. NASS. SA. SARW.

Date shown as 9 Coat of Arms 1.

Reverse: At center Imperial Orb.

Legend surrounding: RUDOL Z IMP AVG PFDFC.

Rudolf II Holy Roman Emperor August.

The PFDFC are initials for the permission of Rudy to mint this item.

There is a Z in lower half of Imperial Orb.

Note: Varieties Exist.  Apparently there are abundant varieties existing.

Note: Isenbeck 34.

Note: Nassau-Weilburg-Saarbrucken was member of Holy Roman Empire.

Note: After wandering to Groningen & Ommelanden, and Bouillon of Liege, and

Duchy of Vrbno, and Reval, it is fun to return to the heart of H.R.E...!

A short history because Heron has previously 'covered' Nassau History.

1559 - Brothers Philip & Albert inherit County Nassau-Weilburg.

1561 - Phil & AL divide territory. Phil received Neuweilnau.  AL rcvd Weilburg.

1574 - Phil & AL inherit Saarbrucken, Saarland, & Ottweiler.

1593 - AL crossed over the great divide.

*Heron was lucky to recently acquire several nice coins of the Holy Roman Empire.    Heron will be 'reporting' a few soon.  This is always a fun hobby.  We

just never know where or when we will 'find' a few items that we 'need'.  Nr 375

on the list of different issuing entities is a 'dandy' item!  A great hobby always. **
