EURO C&O #373 - BOUILLON of LIEGE - 1 LIARD - N.D. 1612 to 1650.

30 de Junio 2018:  Greetings to all coin collectors, where-ever you might be!

elHeron is pleased to report Central & Oest Europa coin entity #373.  It is a non

dated coin but still is an interesting item.   Interesting because it was issued for the Bouillon Castle and surrounding area.   Heron has reported some really 'obscure' coin issuing entities recently.  However, even though Bouillon Castle is very obscure it still does not beat out Falckenstein Castle of Nieder Austria!

The Coin: Bouillon Castle Liege - Liard - Copper - 25mm. 1612-1650.

Obverse: Portrait Ferdinand of Bavaria.

Legend surrounding: FERDINANDUS. D.G. EPISCOP. LEODI.

Reverse: Crowned Coat of Arms Liege with shield of Bouillon at center.

                   Legend surrounding:  DUX BVLLONIENSIS.

A Short History:

988 - First mention of Bouillon Castle.

1082 - Godfrey of Bouillon sells castle to Prinz Bishop Liege.

1155 - Holy Roman Emperor confirms Prinz Bishop 'rights' to Bouillon.

1291 - Prinz Bishops promote themselves to Dukes.

1612 - Ferdinand of Bavaria becomes Prinz Bishop of Liege.

1650 - Ferd crossed over the 'Great Divide'.

Liege:

972 - Acqired Huy - Prinz Bishopric.

1096 - Acquired Bouillon.

Note: Liege was eccliastic state of Holy Roman Empire 980 to 1789.

Note: History of Bouillon is very complex.  Research is advised.

Note: Coin varieties abound.

Note: Bouillon Castle is now a large tourist attraction.  Pun intended!

** Yes!  Another neat Copper coin for the Heron's accumulation.  And Nr 373 for different coin issuing entities of Central & Oest Europa.   The collecting has been sparse but some interesting items have been acquired.   The 'hunt' continues.

Can elHeron reach 400 prior to crossing the Rio Styx?  Who knows! Quien Sabe!

The hobby fun continues onward.  **
