First, let me say that this has nothing to do with the honest/integrity of the seller: if the item they sell is completely unused, sealed in the original box, and contains all parts/accessories and papers, then it is "new". However: it does not mean that the company who made the item is giving you a warranty. The reason is that you bought their item privately, and not from one of their retailers/dealers. This is the case for PUR Water Filters. Any PUR water filter you buy from a private party will not carry a PUR warranty of any kind. Warranty is only on their products sold by dealers of PUR products (like a Department Store or major online PUR dealer). I have documentation from PUR about this. I'm not complaining, as the item I bought was inexpensive (and in fact, new), but keep this fact in mind. Thank you!

Very few manufacture's warranties carry over to subsequent buyers of anything. So unless an eBay seller is actually an authorized dealer of the product being sold, they would have had to purchase it themselves and the warranty would not transfer to the new owner when they sell it.
Of course, sellers could offer their own warranty, but unfortunately, those may not be worth the paper they are printed on or the bandwidth used to display them.

7606dennis is absolutely right. Many of the new items sold on ebay unless the seller specifically mentions that they are an authorized dealer for the product, will not have a warranty. The same is true on all other sites that have independent sellers using them. Those items are being sold on the gray market.
About the only way to get a Mfr. Warranty from a non authorized dealer, is to buy Mfr. or factory refurbished items. Not only do those items sell for less, but they are more rigorously tested than items from the factory, which rarely are not tested beyond powering them up. Depending on the item you'll usualy get a warranty from 90 days to 1 year. If there s enough savings, buy an aftermarket extended warranty if you want longer coverage.

Most manufacturers require a sales receipt for the item for it to be covered under warranty. They don't accept ebay sale printouts as sales receipts. A lot of them require that you take it back to the store you purchased it from along with your receipt for a refund or exchange. Without a legit sales receipt from a retailer or authorized seller of their product they have no idea how long you have had the item or if it is even under warranty anymore. Warranties cover the original purchaser~~not someone else who buys it 2nd hand even if it's still in sealed factory packaging.

waranties are very seldom worth it since you have to mail the item.
