I recently received a notification stating that my shoes had been authenticated. The only issue was that usps didn't show that the package was delivered. Later the package was shown as delivered at 1:40pm when the notice of authentication was at 9:00am. I understand that tracking is not exact but it does seem odd. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Your sneakers were sent to ebay's authenticators by the seller. If there was a tracking number uploaded to the listing, check the shipping service's site and track it from there. eBay uses Pitney Bowes, their shipping partner's 2nd hand tracking system, and their info is not always correct.
"Later the package was shown as delivered at 1:40pm when the notice of authentication was at 9:00am".
Sometimes, a carrier forgets to switch their scanner from delivered to picked up, when scanning items. So it can show Delivered the same day it was sent. If it is in the system, later today or tomorrow there should be an update.

just to clarify usps tracking stated that the shoes were delivered to the authentication center in NY at 1:40pm after I received a notification from ebay that my shoes were authenticated at 9:00am. Assuming the tracking is accurate it looks like my shoes were authenticated before the center received them.

That is a horse of a different color. Your original post had me thinking the authenticated notification and tracking showing delivery to you happened on the same day. I do not collect sneakers, and only know about the system from what I have read elsewhere online. The information given out by ebay is sparse.
Nowhere does it say anything about a buyer being notified when the authentication has been completed.
It also does not say if a new tracking number is uploaded when the sneakers are forwarded to the buyer.
Info I've read says communications between the buyer and seller are disabled, until the sneakers are received. Causing lots of consternation on the part of buyers.
You may want to do some searching online and maybe you can find more info than I have.
If the tracking number info you received does not show delivery to Astoria, NY or a zip code for a town close by, then maybe there is room for a scam. Good Luck
