possible scam

Hello I noticed a truck for sale on a different website and when i asked about the item to purchase it the seller told me that they were not in the area that they set up an agreement with ebay so that they did not need to be present for the sale. However when i said i was interested ebay sent me an email stating that i needed to go to certain locations to convert my money into Bitcoin to do this purchase. To me this sounds like a scam being that you can not trace money once transferred to bitcoin. Please tell me i did the right thing by not going through with this purchase. I really loved the truck and need the truck however i didnt think this was real. another thing was the sellers post stated they were in a town near me but when ebay sent me the email it showed the seller in another state. If ebay does do this with bitcoin please tell me why i can not use my own personal debit card to make the purchase and i would need to go convert my American dollars into something electronic. Some one help me understand please.

This is unfortunately a very common scam. EBay never has anything to do with things you find on other sites. It used to be the scammers always asked for gift cards. Now it appears they've switched to bitcoin. But good on you for questioning it and not letting them scam you. You sadly are in the minority, as countless others get taken.
