Hi, I am the winning bidder on a $8000 watch. The watch was listed in the "Boxes and Cases" section, not the "Wristwatches" section. My question is, will the seller still be directed to send the watch through the authentication service if it was not listed in the "Wristwatch" section?

Are you SURE it was describing an actual watch and not a box or case?
Unless it falls into the program it will not be authenticated. I would think boxes and cases would not.
Items included in the Authenticity Guarantee program display a blue Authenticity Guarantee checkmark. Buyers will see the checkmark in the search results page, the view item page, the checkout page and their Purchase history page.

Item for sale will state in the item for sale 'authentication'...which it goes to before to the buyer.
If the item sold does not state it...it isn't going there.
It's the item itself that states if it is going to the 'authentication'.then it is going there...'sections' mean nothing.
Interesting fact that is no secret here on the postings....item is authenticated by a 3rd party in Dayton, Ohio by Stoll & Co...which is a watch repair shop. Also interesting is googling company on 'yelp'...which is fascinating as to what buyers on eBay say on yelp about them. I got all that from readings posts here so it's no secret.

A box sold for $8000.00? That would be some sale....

What was the item number, not the transaction number?

You are sure that is not one of those cute scams where they are just selling the box? I don't like sound of this. Be sure you pay with a credit card for the added protection. Does that seller have any feedback for selling high end items in that price range?
You might want to also search these board for the fake tracking number scam. Just in case.

Per the eBay page on watch authentication: "Currently, watches listed in the primary category of wristwatches and sold for $2,000.00 or more are eligible for the Authenticity Guarantee service." So a watch not listed in the Watches category won't be eligible.
Every listing that will use the authentication service will show a blue checkmark badge. If the listing doesn't have the badge it won't be authenticated.

I see huge red flags, none of which make me feel warm and fuzzy.
Is this a new seller?
Please post the item number.

The seller refunded and relisted including the "Authenticity Guarantee" badge so I feel better now. I did confirm with eBay that even without the badge, regular buyer protection covers fraud and I would be protected - but I would have to authenticate at my local Rolex dealer within 30 days.
It is a good idea to insist on the eBay "Authenticity Guarantee" as there is no incremental cost to the seller if >$2000

There's actually never a cost to the seller. On watches from $500-$1999.99 the buyer is given the option to purchase authentication for $80 during checkout.
