Verify and Validate??

I've been tolerating the eBay verify sliding puzzle piece and now a new box just popped up to Validate your Identity. I went to place a bid, not make a purchase, and before I was able to do that I had to Validate my Identity by receiving a phone call at the number associated with my account to get a PIN number, enter that number into a box and then I was graciously allowed by eBay to enter a bid.

This was a bid being placed by one of my selling accounts not this posting account. This was not an attempt to make a purchase it was just placing a bid.

And yes I did have to slide the puzzle piece to get into the selling account so I was already verified.

Has eBay lost their collective minds or are they trying to chase off buyers?

If you have to go through this shibai whenever you place a bid, sniping will be a thing of the past, and they will alienate more buyers. I haven't placed a bid yet, but the sliding puzzle did pop up before I could do feedback this morning. What if you don't want ebay calling you?

My guess would be since they would be unable to "Validate Your Identity" with a phone call that you would not be able to bid or do a BIN.

Another case of eBay fixing something that isn't broke.
