USPS missing package

I am a buyer and had a package that was lost. or maybe stolen by USPS, more than likely. it was marked as delivered after 2 days coming from another state, which there's no way it could go that fast under regular mail. I put an inquiry on the USPS website and basically, they were careless. the item cost about $32. I believe it had insurance. How do I go about putting in an insurance claim? is it through ebay?

Thank you for your inquiry. We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with not receiving your package as expected. We have investigated the handling of your package was scanned delivered 8/9/2025 and unfortunately, we are unable to determine where this package was delivered due to geo information not being available in carriers scan at time of delivery. I regret I cannot provide a more favorable response to your inquiry.

Re: USPS missing package

If tracking shows it was delivered, Ebay won't refund.

Since USPS says they delivered it, insurance won't pay.

You need to go to your PO with the tracking number and see what you can find out about the package.

See if the package was addressed to you or someone else.

Have a great day.

Re: USPS missing package

I did. The PO told me to fill out the inquiry on their website. Their reply was noted in my post.  I dont trust ebay anymore. I'm done. This is ridiculous and it's theft.

That's not the correct thing to do.

You need to go to your local post office, have them check the GPS tracking for the tracking number and verify where it was addressed and delivered.

If it was delivered to a different address in your zip code, they won't tell you where it went (for privacy reasons) but they should give you an official letterhead documentation that the item was not addressed and delivered to you at your address.

Then you submit that to ebay for your appeal.

Re: USPS missing package

The PO refused to give me the GPS coordinates. It's the first thing I did. They told me to put an inquiry through the website. What am i supposed to do then?

No, they won't give you the coordinates. What they can and do give is an official letter on a letterhead saying that it wasn't addressed to you and that it was delivered to an address that is not your address.

Re: USPS missing package

Before you do anything else, have you talked with your mailman? Have you checked with any neighbors you may have to make sure it didn't get misdelivered to someone close by? That happens. Do you or any neighbors have security cameras? If so, you can pull up the camera for the date and time it was supposedly delivered to see if it actually was. If you have people who live with you, check with them to make sure someone didn't accidentally bring it in. I've had buyers find their package in their teenager's room. Kid brings it in when they come home from school, drops in their room and forgets about it.

When you went to the post office, did you talk to the postmaster or the window clerk? You need to speak to a supervisor, ideally the postmaster. Go back up there as others have said. Take a print out of what USPS sent you when you go, so that they can see they are handling it wrong. They have an internal system they can pull up that will tell them exactly where the package was left and whether it was addressed to you or someone else nearby. Depending on what they say, that will determine what you need to do next.

Let me also clear up a slight misconception you have. You are right that 2-days is fast for Ground Advantage, yes. Many deliveries have been really slow, but I've also seen them abnormally fast, though that normally isn't the case.

Insurance is for the benefit of the person that shipped the item (the seller).

Do as the others have said....go in person to you post office, have them state in writing that the package was not addressed to you. Then you can contact Ebay to file an appeal. You may need to contact them if they deny the appeal.

You can use the following link to request a call back from an Ebay customer service rep :

https://www.ebay.com/help/eua?id=5275&mkpid

Available 5:00 am to 9:30 pm Pacific Time.

OR send a private message for further help here:

Good luck!

Re: USPS missing package

That's what their email said in my original post. They dont know what address they delivered to and to use the email as an official letter.

Re: USPS missing package

I tried. they refuse to do that. They keep directing me to put an inquiry through their website. I already did that and the person that replied signed the email with their name and that they were from my post office and they dont know where it was delivered to.

Re: USPS missing package

They DO know what address they delivered it to.

They will not share that address with you and you do not actually need it.

As others have explained, you need to get a letter from the PO stating that the address to which it was delivered was not yours.

You then need to submit that letter to eBay as proof of your claim.

Re: USPS missing package

I went to the PO, asked them to give me a letter stating it was sent to the wrong address. They refused to give me the letter. They said it was delivered and wont give me any more info. Now what? They refuse to help.
