Return Shipping

I bought a keyboard, but unfortunately it was defective.  The seller refunded me , but after a day I thought they might want it back so I emailed the seller asking if they wanted it back.  I told them I'd need their address to send it back, but that I usually got an label when item was defective.  I guess they inferred that I wanted to pay the return shipping because they sent their address, but no label.  I priced it out and it looks like I'll have spend at least $15 since I'm in the Midwest and they're on the coast.  If I could get an eBay shipping discount, it would be a more palatable $10.  Is there a way to do that?

I've only had a buyer request a return a few times.  I always just refunded them and told them to toss it, so I got to wondering if it was cheaper for the seller to send me a return label than for me to spend $15 to return it?  Then I could send the seller the cost via Paypal.  Any thoughts?  Thanks for any help.

Return Shipping

The seller would have to provide a return shipping label if they want it back. The ball is in their court to do that since you offered to return it.

Return Shipping

If you'd opened a NAD (not as described) return request, the seller would have had the option of issuing a refund (without your having to return it) or to supply a prepaid shipping label for you to affix to the package and send back. Then upon receipt of the returned item, you'd get a full refund.

But since the seller refunded without requiring the return, it appeared that he didn't want it back. At this point, if you want to return it, it would be on your dime unless he's willing to purchase and send you a label to return it.

Return Shipping

Since you've been refunded, in eBay's eyes the return is complete. Tell the seller that if they want the keyboard back they'll need to send you a prepaid return label. If they choose not to, you're under no obligation to return it.

@zazonz

If you are talking about a USPS label there is no such thing as an "eBay discount". We pay the online shipping label rate when we purchase "through" eBay other than those of us that are TRS get ~ 3% perk on Priority.

As others posted...............  return shipping is on the seller's dime, but if you really want to pay there are other places online to purchase a label at "online rates".

Return Shipping

Thanks for the help so far.  I wrote the seller saying I thought is unfair to ask me to pay for return shipping given the item was defective and they agreed, but they stated they could not get a label because the return was already sent.  They asked I could send it COD or they could refund me via Zelie, which I have never heard of before this.  Does any of that sound like a good idea?  Thanks again.

I wouldn't do it that way.

Tell the seller they can print a label through USPS.com putting their own name as the "ship to" name and address. Then they can attach a copy of the label as an image or PDF to a message to you.

DO NOT SEND COD.
