No Knowledge needed

I have been a member of Ebay since it started and never in my life have I seen such a mess . The sellers on here now have lost all touch with reality. They are buying junk at yard sales and thrift stores and attempting to resell it for more than one can go out and buy it new. I questioned a seller the other day if he had misspriced a item as it was readily availabe anywhere "New" $15 dollars cheaper than what he was asking used ??? He replied by cussing me !!Cameras are something I always have liked and went to the film photography items for the first time in over a year and almost fell over. First film is hard to find and second it is really expensive to have developed and printed not 1 in 1000 camera owners has a dark room to do this themselves. The prices were unreal. I purchased a couple of cameras last year for  .50 cents for one and a dollar for the other which actually were worth at best $2.00 each. Sellers were asking upwards of $150 to $200 for the same thing. One camera I purchased last winter for $20 was being attempted to be sold for anywhere from $99 to $200 with some of these for parts and there are no shops that still work on them. I know from expierence working on a camera is like working on a watch good luck ! I have been reading tht due to above listed sellers doing this that Ebay will probably be shut down by the year 2020 two years away.

I quit shopping at thrift stores last year due to seeing a fist fight break out over who saw a item just brought out for sale by two men with smart phones checking to see what they could list a used coffee maker on ebay ?? I am just too darned ols for this and as my ole Grandpappy told me once "Afool and his money are soon parted" words to live by. Back when ebay first started it was agreat place to get something at a decent price, but for me it has outlived it's life span.

@bear52,

"First film is hard to find and second it is really expensive to have developed and printed not 1 in 1000 camera owners has a dark room to do this themselves".

What juststuffisell wrote about Film photography making a come back is true. My sons high school is running classes in film photography at least in Black and White.  When I found that out I checked into it to find out  that they do it in conjunction with the Community College down the road.  The College buys the film in bulk to sell to the students, and they even rent darkroom space on weekends to the general public.

I just wish they hadn't taken my Kodachrome away.

Ummm. Yeah?

If something is hard to find, it makes sense that the price would be high.

I mean, I have access to Dennison Stamp Hinges because DH is a collector, and those have not been made for over 30 years. They currently sell for over $15 a packet from their original price of around a quarter.

I suspect that camera enthusiasts are much more likely to have access to a darkroom than most. Many would also be capable of repairing the cameras they buy. It's half the fun.

Specialists specialize.

Re: No Knowledge needed

Buyers have become totally unrealistic when it comes to item pricing.

If the items are no longer being made it would stand to reason that the price would go up eventually.

This used to be a great place to sell, but the current mentality of "it's on eBay so it better be cheap, has made it a misery to sell certain items.

RE:  Why do you feel that an ebay price has to be the lowest?

Most likely, he is in that bundle of shoppers who sees Ebay as a giant "Flea Market" and not an eCommerce Market Place for buyers and sellers.  The Flea Market image for these shoppers is hard to shake which is why they expect to purchase your items for a few cents and complain when they can't.

Remember, these flea markets shoppers don't expect you, the seller, to make any money.

Not if they're no longer desirable. I would say there are just as many sellers out there who have outrageous expectations for price as there are buyers. Like I said, this one seller has been listing the same item for 15 years. I'm also seeing new sellers (to the cat) showing up with prices that are consistent with 2000. They they are trying to sell for 5-10 times the price that similar collectibles sell for today.

Dreamer, nothing but a dreamer.

Re: No Knowledge needed

Most of last year and well into this one there was a seller that listed a Pokemon Bidoof card for 3,000.99  This was a common Pokemon card sells all day for 25 cents. I actually wrote this seller and asked if the price was a mistake, but no it wasn't a mistake.   I was amused by the seller's description.  The seller claimed that this  was the most valuable card on the Planet.   Furthermore, in the listing description they questioned "Are you worthy of granting yourself or your loved one such a God of a card?"  The seller stated that they would provide you with the card and a certificate declaring that you paid $3k  for this Master card to prove that you are a man among men!  This card of course never sold, but it was definitely a great joke in trading card circles. I remember at one time there were over 60 watchers.  Much later down the road the seller even had a Best Offer option on the card.  I couldn't help myself and offered 99 cents, but received no response.  My point is that a seller can set any price they want on an item regardless of what anyone else thinks it's worth.

i agree 100%.  EBAY obviously has no way of keeping up with these people or SCAMMERS who need to get a real job!  It is totally out of control!

When I was a serious coin buyer/collector, and prices seemed to be getting too high, I became a serious coin seller.

Re: No Knowledge needed

I'm sorry you got cussed out but questioning the price and mentioning how much new goes for isn't going to sit well with some.  Best to just move on to another listing.
