The bew checkout process requires you to list what card/bank acct you want to use so that it can be charged as soon as the auction ends. Before you would be directed to paypal and have the option of which card, paypal credit, or the "pay in four" option. Well with this new checkout process those are taken away. From time to time I use the paypal credit o the pay in four option. You do not have this option. Why did ebay change this?

Possible has something to do with a secure payment source? Debit and PayPal accounts may not have the funds in them. CC can be checked to be certain the customer has the credit available.

If that is the case it is going to really limit the number of bidders who do have the funds from another source. That is not too good.

I was confused on how to change the payment source that was coming up in a recent best offer, It defaulted to my Credit card which I rarely use. I purchase with my debit card linked to my PP account which is my checking acct. Not sure how to change that. Maybe somebody else can chime in.

I haven't experienced this ^^^ yet, but I like to use PayPal and select my payment method from my PayPal Wallet, too. Plus, it kinda stinks that we lose that layer of buyer protection, even though I've never had to use it. Bummer...

The 'new' system; on 'bids for auctions' and/or 'sending an offer to the seller' is changing to 'charge a credit card'.
This 'charge to credit card' is the one you put up and is direct.
It does NOT use PP.
It IS direct.
The good thing is: you can use a card that gives you 'points'; so that adds up.
That's the new system (thank all those that don't pay when bidding/winning an auction and/or sending offers that are accepted and then NOT paying)

I got the same problem and put another card that is fine that follows the guidelines but to no avail it refuses to accept payment everytime no matter what i try to do about it. I will lift my auctions as well since others who have the same problem will not bid or be able to buy anything if they see nothing good to gain by having more issues with their account.

I like the option of what source to use. As I said sometimes when I buy bigger ticket items I use the PP 'pay in 4" option. Ebay won't care if they lose customers for as much money as they make they could really care less. The owners etc are raking in the cash. Only good thing is it will save me money and I will start looking into other sources. Toy Peddler etc for my Hot Wheels etc.

So, eBay's new "improvement" ruins the experience for long-time users with 100% feedback because eBay is incapable of fixing this on their own by just getting rid of scammers, shill bidders, crooks, and grifters. Their philosophy is to crap on the long time patrons by making them jump through more hoops than necessary when they could weed out the scammers and crooks with... probationary period, scrutinizing new accounts, verifying new account, and kicking the scumbags off that exploit the system. It's not rocket science but it certainly is tough for eBay. I'm about done with the woke morons.

Yes so very true. Ebay can't figure it out so they handicap the legit people. They are just saving me money, and now forcing me to go other sites. Where I can use my PP wallet and chose my option of payment. Can't understand why they always have to keep trying to improve things. So thank yo ebay.

Just got hit with it this morning. Apparently eBay wants to lower the bidding prices for their sellers. I don't sell, I buy a lot of junk I don't need. The only time I've been scammed is recently when the eBay offers system double dibbed my card for the same item. Of course the seller only sent one item but it was only 8 dollars. Now I suddenly get notified I have to do the same thing for bids. It's not going to happen. Divorce time eBay, you don't need me anymore. Thank God I'm free from your clutches 😄 I'll probably have to find another site where I can buy junk I don't need. Or perhaps I'll just spend the money on a competing companies stock.

This is awful. I often buy multiple items from one seller over a period of one week - usually vinyl records or CDs. This allows me to take advantage of combined shipping. This new ebay requirement seems to eliminate the ability to do this. If I have to pay separate shipping for very item I buy, I will stop most of my buying.
For those who haven't seen this, here it is:
Introducing automatic checkout
To protect our marketplace, we're making sure no item gets left unpaid. Here's how:
Before you bid, set your payment preferences (you can update these before the auction ends)
If you win, we'll automatically process your order
Curiously, I checked a few different sellers, and this ebay message popped up on two but did not pop up on two others. This new automatic checkout may be useful for high-priced items, but not for the low-priced records and CDs I buy.

I think @vintagecraze50 is on the right track.
To my knowledge, PayPal does not have an authorization hold function, which both credit and debit cards do.
I suspect Ebay is doing an authorization hold when you try to bid, and a charge when you win.

So us loyal, not rich but can pull pay in 4 on some decent items on eBay was awesome! Not having to pay full price through affirm/ect... I loved it.. Definitely bummed 😞
