Getting junk from ebay

I  have bought a number of things from ebay and it has always been good up until recently. I bought four solid state drives from two different sellers. Three died and lost all of my data. The one that still works I don't trust so what good is it? This was past my month for returns. These things are obviously bad technology and yet they are still being sold. There must  have been many return requests, so they would know they are junk.  But it takes them over a month to go bad. I also bought a chicken door and the gears did not align so it worked for a few days and stopped. Fortunately, my chickens did not get eaten. Has anyone else noticed this junk selling? The reviews look good than I just get a load of crap. I  am thinking maybe it is time to leave ebay.

@stejohcoo

Since we cannot see what you purchased, I have to ask:   Are you buying based on low price from Sellers who ship from China?

In addition to eBay's Money Back Guarantee which is good for 30 days from delivery, you are covered by Paypal's Buyer Protection for 180 days from payment.

If you did not use PP, you can apply to your credit card about a chargeback. Card policies differ.

If you used a debit card, gift card, e-transfer, or wire transfer, you will never see your money again.

If those SSD drives were cheap unknown brand then there is high risk of quality issues. Cheap unknown SD cards / USB sticks with high capacities are very common risk and they are still sold on eBay.

If they were known brand and possibly used then it's good to check them with Crystaldiskinfo or similar software before using, probably good to check those new unknown brand chinese ones as well if you end up buying them.

@stejohcoo,

  "The reviews look good than I just get a load of crap".

I'll bet dollars to donuts, that you just look at seller's feedback percentages and not their actual feedback profile pages.  You access those pages by clicking on the number in (  ) to the right of their username.  On the page that opens you can see their country of registry, and if they have received any neutral and negative feedback, you can click on the numbers of them to read only those comments.

You are not a very experienced ebay user, so you may not understand that ebay's best high volume sellers will have a feedback percentage of 99.6% or better. Those with less than a 98.6% rating should be avoided, especially if they are China based.  Low volume or occasional sellers can have a lower percentage, for just one negative feedback, but you should visit their profile page to find out what the issue(s) were.  Click on the feedback number of the last seller you received feedback from, and see if you would have bought from them if you had checked their profile page first.

    "This was past my month for returns".

Your 30 day protections start when tracking shows a delivery scan or from the last estimated delivery date shown on the listing if there was no tracking.  Also the question asked by @ittybitnot  about buying based on price is a valid one.  Quality costs, and reputable brand named items generally cost more than no or unrecognizable name brand items.
